From a different (http://www.pjstar.com/news/20170510/galesburg-motorist-accused-of-trying-to-kill-cyclist) news article on this incident:

A Galesburg woman is charged with attempted murder of a former Galesburg police officer who was hit by a vehicle Tuesday while riding his bicycle.

Bond was set at $500,000 Wednesday in Knox County court for Jacqueline J. Wells, 45. Andrew Tolle, 61, suffered a broken arm and leg and a fractured pelvis in the incident and was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Tolle retired from the Galesburg Police Department in 2013 as a captain with 29 years of experience.

I'm skeptical similar charges would have been filed had the victim been Joe Civilian bicyclist.

I doubt it. Blue uniform=preferential treatment.

I hate the grinning drunk idiot picture of her.

Bet when she sobered up that stupid grin left her face. Her hatred for cyclists probably stuck around though. Hope she gets hammered in court.

"Wells repeatedly yelled at Judge Bruce Beal in a video court appearance, calling him Santa Claus among other things. Beal ordered a mental health fitness evaluation for her." From source cited earlier.

Drug induced psychosis? Mentally ill?

Not charged with DUI...so....

This wasn't an accident, I don't see preferential treatment here:
Jacqueline J. Wells, 45 pulled up next to him and began making obscene gestures and yelling at him. Wells then positioned her Jeep behind Tolle and rammed the bike twice, knocking him off, deputies said. Wells then ran over Tolle and drove off with the bicycle dragging underneath the jeep.

They mean by the Justice system.

Mugshots of the soul...

I think it was Jerry Jeff who talked about "wine truth"...the idea that what you really believe and who you really are comes out when you're 5#!+ faced.
I hope both these idiots who took their inner a$$hole out for a walk get slapped back and get some help.

Now she is facing a life of having a felony conviction(s), to add to whatever sentence she may receive. I can't imagine that the mugshot is going to help mitigate her damages in court.

I agree.

Well, I hate to say it but if it takes more retired cops getting run over to strengthen laws protecting cyclists, then I'm all for it. It's either that or it'll have to happen to lawmakers before this becomes a REAL issue.

The woman targeted and attacked the cyclist and would have been charged with the same offenses regardless of the cyclist's profession.

The woman targeted and attacked the cyclist and would have been charged with the same offenses regardless of the cyclist's profession. You can believe that if you wish but I'm firmly in the "believe otherwise" camp.....I have no doubt that she's being treated differently because of the victim's profession.

Good Lord she ran the guy over. I would hope if the victim happened to be another drunk driver she would have been charged with the same.
