I was going to get some GP4000S II but at the measured width I found on The Internet (31mm) on wide rims (I'm using Archetypes), I'll have 1.5mm of clearance at the closest point. That's a little risky for my taste.

Maybe the 25mm version would be close to a true 28?

Maybe Rubino Pros would be?

I have plenty of height to work with just not so much side to side. Tire on the bike now (Conti Grand Sport 25) measures 26(.3 ... or .5) mm and I have 4mm to play with.

Was looking at the 26mm Compass also but they're a little rough on my budget I think.

I can tell you that the vittoria corsa G+ are exactly 28mm on my archtypes. They also happen to be fantastic and would be my recommendation. Not sure if they are on sale right now, but they were a month ago at CC and back country

The previous Corsas are my favourite tire ever. Will consider, thanks.

A bit more searching reveals a guy that measured his GP4000S II 25mm on a HED Belgium at 28mm. Seems to agree with other reports that these run a bit large. Likewise Michelin Pro4 Endurance 25mm, measured at 28.5. Those could be good options then.

I was about to say the michelins, I had them on my archetypes and they measured more like 29mm. Great tires but I seriously prefer the corsas

28mm Conti 4000s ii run just a tiny hair under 30. Love them at 75 psi.

The Panaracer GravelKings might be spec'ed or measured assuming wide rims. I have the brownwall file-tread version in both 28 and 32 and they're a hair under that width on a Bontrager TLR wide rim.

it's tough trying to predict how a tire responds to wider rims. my conti 28s are marginally (if any) wider on a23 than they were on rr1.1. but michelin pro4 size 25 ballooned out enough to rub the frame. ended up sizing down to a 23, and now it's barely wider than the rim itself.

I measured Conti GP4000 on 3 different 23mm rims and inflated to 95psi they all measured 27mm.

Just installed 28c schwable one on 23mm rims (hed c2) and they measure at 28.5mm. However, I do expect that they will stretch out and get wider. They are also a tall tire.

With HED Plus Rim (25mm, in my case Jet 6+), 23c, 25c, 28c 4000S2 measures something like 28mm, 30mm, 33mm. For my Felt Fc, 25c was the widest to fit. It seems to have around 3-4mm clearance, but 28c rubbed the frame.

In addition to the Vittorias mentioned above, I've found the Clement 28s to run right at 28 on my Pacenti sl23 rims.

I am gonna say vittoria does a good job with sizes because my other vittories (rubino pro speed) in 25mm, measure exactly 25mm. Also my vittoria paves, 27mm, measure exactly 27mm

I've got some Schwalbe Pro One tubeless 25c on Pacenti SL23 rims. They measure out to 28 mm.

I just measured my 25mm GP 4000s II on an Archetype rim and it comes in at 27.4 mm on my digital calipers. The 28s on my touring bike, also on an Archetype, came in at 30.5 mm.

25s are the answer for me, measuring pretty close to a 28 to think of them as a 28.

Conti GP4000s II 28's measure out to 30.5mm on Hed C2 rims.

Are Clements supposed to be some sort of fancy hipster tire?
