I just heard for the first time about the Park HTS-1 head tube straightening tool.
Wasn't aware that straightening a HT was ever considered a feasible repair.

Anyway, considering to use this approach for the bent HT of an old Casati MS frame but need to know whether this would work on Columbus Multi-Shape tubing.
I assume if MS is heat treated or some fancy alloy, I can rule it out.

What is wrong with the head tube?

I assume the bumps and wrinkles won't come out but if I can get it semi-straight it would already be an improvement.
Will never be my go to bike anyways...

It appears both top and down tubes were deformed from a front end impact. That's usually a non-starter for me.

You are not straightening the head tube, you would be pulling the head tube back into plane by bending the already damaged top and down tubes.

I am totally with you, just followed the nomenclature that was apparently used back in the days when this was more common.
Including Park naming their tool Head Tube Straightener HTS-1 (http://www.parktool.com/product/head-tube-straightener-hts-1)

I've never seen one of these, but interesting idea... I've got a top tube and down tube rippled frame, which is clearly toast--would be cool to try it out just 'cause.

Ditto.

I actually came across this on the Steel is Real FB group where a guy had a shop change the HT angle of an undamaged Mercier frame by 4 degrees with this method!

IMO that thing is all done. Make a mailbox post out of it and call it good.

Sorry.

4 degrees? Whoa--I would think that would create distortion going the other way on an otherwise OK frame.

Do you have one of these? If you do, or you get to try the tool, it would be pretty cool to see.

Edit: I do think a multi shaped mailbox post could be cool...
