I've got an older cross frame I'm not using and a set of 650b wheels. Does anyone know of a set of canti brakes that have a range that would allow the pads to be lowered to 650b rim height, on a frame designed for 700c? TIA.

Probably wont work. I would bet that the canti studs would be right next to the brake track not allowing a brake to mount and still function.

I know nothing of this stuff usually but i stumbled upon Marinovative Decelerators from a bike i sold for a friend. They were apparently workable on everything from 26" to 28" and anything in-between.

These brakes are now really expensive if you can even find them but perhaps they made a less extravagant brake with the same function? Or somebody copied the design? I dunno..

You can slide the pads up and down the lever so pretty big range. Im sure it will affect performance leverage tho.

Could probably work

The above mentioned work okay when going bigger. I still dont think it will work well going smaller. The pad will need to be in the same spot as the pivot.

Right. I've seen plenty of conversions going 26" to 650/700, but not the reverse. You'll need to get new posts welded.

Magic used to have an adapter as well (no longer produced). Again, only goes bigger.

Although I've always wondered if going from 700 to 559 could be done using centerpull.

Ah yes i read your post a little to fast.

Perhaps something like this?

I asked Paul this same question just last week and unfortunately No, the Motolites only work for increasing rim diameter.

This is my best guess, too. Sinz used to make one of these doodads, too. Although I've never seen people use them this way, I don't see why they wouldn't work, provided they original posts don't stand proud of the adapters.

There is no easy solution to this problem. There is no brake or adapter that will allow a 27"/700C cantilever bike to run rim brakes on a 650B wheel. The canti bosses will be right next to the 650B rim - right where the brake pad needs to be.

Moving the cantilever bosses is the solution for these bikes. That's why they're not very good candidates for simple 650B conversion.

Paul made a BMX version of the motolite that I believe will work
