My ti cyclocross Scott Quiring arrived today (Oh the joy), and I discovered that I had foolishly ordered the wrong size seatpost. Then I got to thinking that this might be a blessing in disguise. I had ordered a Thompson Elite Seatpost and stem (both black- not sure if they come in any other clolor), however, given the fact that I have to reorder them to fit the beautiful bike I thought I could ask the great people of this forum what seatpost and fork would look the best on a polished/ sanded ti frame. Here is a link to the bike.

Note- I am 6'7" 285, I would like to stay under $250 dollars for both.

Thanks Sam

Thomson Elite is tough to beat, although I hear good things about FSA. The Thomson is available in silver, which might be a good choice for that frame
finish.

I suggest you research the absolute strongest option. no light weight stuff for you. guy's your size destroy equipment. you in particular don't want to save weight on your stem or fork.

I've grown to like the Oval Concepts stuff. I wouldn't go with anything CNC'd.

Or anything else, for that matter! I have found that for "bigger" guys (or gals) you are better off not looking at saving weight. I have found that my stouter-heavier-frames, bikes, etc. seem to ride the best and be the most comfortable for me (6' 5" 245 lbs).

Just one "bigger" guys opinion.

Damn. You guys are enormous. I thought I was a big cyclist at 6'5" 220#.

Edit to add: I use forged quill stems. On my new bike I have ordered a Thomson stem and an AC post.

how 'bout a steel stem?

salsa (reportedly) still makes the sul in a quill and a threadless stem. chromoly and tough.

chris kelly also has screaming deals for his steel stems going now, as he liquidates his inventory.

Anyone have pictures of a ti bike (polished) with the silver Thompson seatpost and maybe stem they can post or send me?

Thanks for all your help. I definitly believe that big tall guys should build for strength especially if enjoyment over racing speed is the goal (by the way I have about 10 pounds to lose- I ain't that enormous- I got some very large shoulders :) thank you.)

These are quite nice, the same as the coveted ti record, except the shaft is steel and a few grams more heavy. I just got one for my dear father.

(Just a wee little lad compared to you...and I get to say that so rarely :D ) I'd stay away from the AC post, I've bent more than one on my mountain bike. I'd look for a Moots Ti post and stem, you'll be able to get that price point on Ebay (retail would be higher). I've bent a good half dozen posts on my mountain bike, and my Moots post has been flawless for years, and what would look better?

That Bold seatpost is gorgeous, is it strong enough for me?

I had that combo for a few minutes a few weeks ago and didn't like the way it looked. The silver of the thomson post is very shiny and makes a clean ti frame (I have a fierte) look dirty by comparison. I switched to black and really prefer the look.

As far as the thomson post goes, I think that it's great.

don't know much about road biking but the standard Thomson posts are it for big guys on mountain bikes. The X2 stem is realitively light and very stiff. Classy looking too.

If you are consididering silver and need a 27.2mm seatpost, how about Nitto? Their stuff is conservatively designed and there is none stronger. Here is their forged, polished stem: http://www.rivbike.com/webalog/handlebars_stems_tape/16163.html and here are their two seatposts (one bolt and two bolt): http://www.rivbike.com/webalog/saddles_accessories/11031.html, http://www.rivbike.com/webalog/saddles_accessories/11016.html.
