I've seen him 4 or 5 times, the last a couple years ago at a small club in Schenectady. I am a huge fan. I'm devastated.

This one hurts a lot. Brilliantly innovative musician who's been at the cutting edge for decades, played on tons of my favorite albums, hugely influential to me and so many other musicians I admire/respect/work with...

John McLaughlin once said "I'd steal everything Allan was doing, if only I could figure out what the heck it was that he was doing."

I love that McLaughlin quote.

Just another sad day in a string of sad days lately. Very few musicians have an instantly recognizable style. Holdsworth was a singularly unique and talented voice -- he will be missed.
