My freehub crapped out on my morning commute today. It seems as though the issue is with the pawls sticking. I was unable to coast without it making an awful noise and driving itself forward.

I know I want to replace the pawl retainer spring because it's fragile looking and appeared bent by the previous owner when I got the wheels. Should I replace the individual pawl springs as well while I'm at it. What about the pawls themselves? If so, I'm not sure which pawls I need.

The ones with the cutout:

Or the ones without:

Thanks as always, Campagnolo nation.

On newer hubs, 1998 and later, aluminum axle, only one pawl spring and yes replace and have a spare(pretty fragile). No need to replace the pawls themselves. Clean, lube with oul(NOT grease), I use Mobile 1.

Springs from a ballpoint pen can often be cut down and used to replace pawl springs (if you're desperate and can't get hold of any proper springs)

Older steel and ti axle, type..3 springs and these springs are easy to find(here on the left side of the atlantic) anyway.
