Thinking about a tandem (kind of). Let me see yours for inspiration.

Here's our Trek T-2000 Fast Track that I picked up last year for $250. It obviously low mileage and the seller put some new tires on it for us. Steel around baby. It's a beast but only 44 pounds so not that bad IMHO.

I worked at the local bike swap last weekend and there were some really nice tandems for reasonable prices.

I'll be following, as I'm also considering one

I love this tandem...I think I'd be hard pressed to find a better one for our needs:

The campy ergo triple group is perfect, I LOVE the wheels, the frame has braze ons for almost any option/change and it has very nice road manners. Lots of space for the stoker and minimal flex.

This one is fun too, in a different way, and when it doesn't breakdown:

Incidentally, how does one transport a tandem? Roof rack?

Travel tandem that we purchased a few years ago from a fellow formite. Upgraded the fork in order to sharpen handling and change brakes from V to disc.

When my wife and I started we had a roof rack. Then we made the switch to a wagon. Seems like every time we travel longer distances we hit rain on the way so it's nice having a clean tandem ready to go.

Our first tandem, '93 DE. Still have it but need to complete Campy 10 upgrade.

Little old, but one of my favorite pictures of us in 1994. Bilenky custom and a Santana. It was my youngest first ride, think she was 3.6 years old.

those frames up in the attic, think about selling them but never get to due it. Blue on ma

My wife and I have had two. First was this Burley Rumba with the Softride beam for the stoker.

http://i705.photobucket.com/albums/ww54/brockd15/Bikes/2000%20Burley%20Rumba/IMG_0179.jpg

She didn't like the beam so we sold it and replaced it with this Cannondale Los Dos. We sold it during a move.

We carried both on a Saris Bones RS rack:

Our Burley Rumba. Pic taken at the 2008 NYS TT championships (which we won :D). We're thinking of a custom aluminum tandem for our next family toy.

Tandems can lead to lack of sleep, higher expenses, and dramatically different rides.

If you do the first...it may lead to the second. Same bike, different life.

Here are a couple of ours.

Waiting for the start of a RR on the road tandem. It does double duty as TT tandem by switching out the cockpits and wheels. That whole procedure takes about 20 minutes.

This is our doitall tandem. Ride and race gravels, tour, train, run occasional errands, etc Mrs TR absolutely LOVES the beam on the rough stuff and on long multi-day tours.

You can't be in a bad mood or frown when you are riding a bike....imagine doubling the dosage and adding another rider to the mix...crazy things happen, laughter ensue, fun all around.

First one...AutoBike. Served as our "neighborhood" bike, won it on eBay more than 15 years ago, put in the starting bid at $50, won it as the only bidder, shipping was a whopping $150! Worth every penny. Used it extensively over the years with every kid as they grow up - all six of them, still in use today, taking my three-year-old to the playground. In this picture, my now-16-yr-old taking her friend for a spin.

Second one - Co-motion Periscope. Got it three years ago locally from a tandem couple who have "upgraded" their bike, paid $1600, super fast and comfortable, excellent design and geometry, the Co-motion guys know a thing or two about tandems, great bike! What's special about the Periscope is its adjustability at the back, able to accommodate young children (as young as 4 or 5) all the way to full adult.

In this picture, rode a charity ride with my oldest a few years ago.

And here with her younger sister, my 8-yr-old

I can tell you conclusively that if you don't listen - carefully - to your partner's needs, you can have a very bad time on a tandem. One of the worst fights I ever had with my spouse was tandem related (aka me not listening).
