Some classic 80's tunes.
I forgot how many songs they had that got regular play.

They used to play a lot of small venues, which, in the era of arena rock, made them special. God Bless.

My first LP.....fifth grade. I had a lot of good records having older sisters, but this was the first that was mine given by a friend at my birthday party. Good times.

My bro was in the biz back in the day and got us backstage passes. Got to shake Peter's hand and hang out. I'll never forget that. RIP

My first live show was J Geils at UNH in 1981. What a great way to be introduced to live rock and roll. I was just a high school kid learning about music and it seemed like the most amazing spectacle in the world. I went on to see many of the great bands and musicians play live, but I'll always consider that my favorite show. If you missed them in their prime, you missed a hell of a show.

I always thought they were the best of the Boston bands and they still get lots of play with me, especially in the garage when working on my bikes.

This is news to me. Some of their tunes carried me through a crappy middle school experience. Freeze Frame, Angel in the Centerfold, Whammer-Jammer (with Magic Dick on harmonica), Rage in the Cage. RIP.

The crazy thing is that in their first incarnation they were a boogy/blues band--our standard party album was J Geils Live 'Full House' (1972)--and they were on their way up.

Round two was 'Freeze Frame' and 'Centerfold'--80's, more pop, but still with the blues base that rescued them from obscurity. I remember reading an interview about how cool it was for them to be booking decent sized venues again, and they weren't taking it for granted this time...

RIP--many crazy parties rocked to your music.

I knew him tangentially through the vintage car racing world. I've got the Freeze Frame LP at home and will be breaking it out for play this evening. RIP

I went to WPI and I remember they proudly listed J. Geils' band as a band that was formed during their school years there. In fact I do not think any of them finished their engineering degrees, but went straight into the music world.

Man, "Full House" was great. There was one whole side that always got played at our parties at college (72-76)
First I look at the Purse
Homework
Pack Fair and Square
Whammer Jammer
Hard Drivin' Man

Usually a few beers were involved.....

Full house is one of the best live recordings ever. I was not even a big J. Geils fan but that recording was great. Superb blues with excellent guitar tone.

Too bad :(

One of the first albums that I really connected with as I was just really getting into music in 1981. A few scratches but still have it and still sounds great. This album and BOC Fire of Unknown Origin over and over.

RIP J Geils:(

J. Geils Band were either my 1st or 2nd concert (must be getting old)...My dad took me to the old Garden...It was ~1979 or '80.

It may be the only time I ever got (contact) high...The Garden was like a smokehouse...I was ~12, and a guy standing at the pisser asked me if I "was holding"...I was like, umm...I'm holding it...yeah. :help:

Amazing live show.

Was never really a fan -- living in Boston from '78 - '87 I got inundated with their music by the local FM stations -- but I do fondly recall stumbling over my cousin's copy of Bloodshot (on the red translucent vinyl) a few years before that. The tune "Give It Up" with its extended proto-funk outro really appealed to my then 13-year-old sensibilities, so they always had my respect and admiration.
