Traversing Yellowstone on two wheels...

Before Cars Come In, Bikes Accompany Bison In Yellowstone

"This weekend bicycles are ruling the road in Yellowstone National Park. Most park roads are closed until later this month, but every spring Yellowstone opens about 50 miles of its main thoroughfares to bikes only...."

Every year I tell myself that I'm going to take advantage of riding in the Park before the cars show up but every year it's cold and snowy. The weather looks good this year to make it happen - maybe later this week if I can peal myself away from the work bench. It's supposed to be in the mid 60's here in Bozeman so probably in the low 50's in the Park.

I want to do this and also ride the Beartooth Highway during the week it opens to bikes before it opens to cars. That road is epic.

So cool, I have some Yellowstone area bison tattooed on my body after a life changing experience with them, what an incredible animal.

I spent last week in Jackson Hole and got to spend a day biking in Grand Teton National Park. I try to do this every year. The park is closed to automobiles until April 30th. I got a nice 65 miles in and could not have had a nicer day. It was even worth missing a day of spring skiing, and that says a lot

When my wife and I visited Yellowstone in July of 2015 I kept telling myself the roads would be an absolute blast on our tandem. A lot of rollers and climbing but the descending would make it worth while. Only downside to the trip was the food at the lodging as not all that great and the horseflies.

Jackson is beautiful. Would love to do some riding there as well.
