Yep. I think 6700 also is new. Although I used 6700 levers on earlier edition brakes to good effect.

They did??? did not know that. That means that some after market calipers wont work?

I remember reading that exposed derailler cables - old pull ratio, cables that run along handlebar under bar tape - new ratio.

My experience mixing 'new' style levers with 'old' style or aftermarket brakes, or vice-versa, has been positive. While there are differences how much brake cable pull the new and old style levers have, it's relatively small and it becomes natural feeling it short order.

One of my favorite combos has been 7800 shifters (old style) with 6800 brakes (new style). Works excellent.

That's it! 7900 was the first generation of DA with the new pull ratio. The updates to other level components got the same new pull ratio as they were released.

What he said..it's in the same category as needing to 'match' inner and outer rings so they are more 'synchronized'..really means not a whole bunch..mix and match away..even Campag and shimano calipers..even tho that's heresy:):)
