I know you can collect pretty much anything but this listing at Craigslist makes me really confuse about what is collectable or not.

Not that bikes but is not that only 3 or 4 of those were made...

Literally anything is collectible. "Collectible" only means that at least one person has decided to collect an object or group of objects (hopefully with some common theme that unites those objects).

I could decide to collect the entry-level/cheapest road bike from every manufacturer from Huffy to Calfee, but that doesn't make it a good collection in anyone else's opinion.

It's a largely meaningless word. Especially in the context of Craigslist or eBay, where "old"="rare" or "collectible" or "vintage". I swear I've seen all three of those descriptions applied to a Trek 5200 or the like, which sold by the truckload...

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

I tend to enjoy the collector's commitment to their passion rather than the items themselves.

Also, it's not like he's asking absurd prices for them

Collector is what he tells his significant other! Looks like three of them never leave the storage unit..maybe he/she doesn't even know.:)

I have collectible collections of collections, so yes, they are collectible.

That seller/collector has 12+ bikes listed and wants to sell them all for $3k +/-. Not exactly good deals for any of them individually priced or even the lot price. So is this a brick n mortar where he actually has wholesale costs?

***edit*** found his other ad, all of them fixed at great expense... ;)

Seller is a local flipper who puts misleading stories in his ads.

Decent bikes, but I'd value them at more like $200 a piece if you took the lot. Certainly nothing that jumps out as a rare collectible, but some cool riders or back up bikes.

I tried looking at all the pics, but couldn't get past the stem/steerer connection. The throat of that stem clamp is clearly open.

Once I saw it I couldn't look away.

The owner obviously needs a stem extender so he can safely get that extreme stem to seat drop he seems to enjoy.
