I'm picturing a fork and front wheel left at the scene of the crime...:D

Yeah, here in chicago there are frames locked to bike racks. Thats not the solution to much except a quick getaway thief. Putting the bike in the highest gear and a toe strap around the wheel/frame will get you the same result.

Heck. Here in rural Colorado a Next will get stripped to the frame if u-locked overnight in the wrong neighborhood!

So why not steal the whole thing?

Was thinking about using a hammer aswell.

What about just take the stem out cut the cables and leave the fork and the wheel in the crime scene? Just fly with the whole bike but the fork and the front wheel.

what happens if you hit it with a hammer?

Hmm... one malfunction when you're riding and you can say goodbye to your teeth (and collar bone and anything else you may break from going flying over the bars).

it's not locked TO anything. how stupid. unless your bike weighs like 300 pounds, the thief will have no problem just running away with it on his back.

Did you not watch the video? It totally foiled the thieves. Every time.

True, and I agree it's not a very good idea, but... thieves choose the easy bike. They don't care what it is (usually. I guess high end pricks are more choosy). ANY lock will protect your bike if an unlocked one is close by. If they start on yours, can't ride away, it'll be in the grass as they run off.
You just are trying to deter the opportunistic thief. You can't stop a pro.

Cool - if you like having a thermostat attached to your front hub!
