For (another) Hour Record Ride. Think of what he could do on carbon! ;)

The article also mentions the documentary film "Marinoni - The Fire In The Frame".

This is great...and local for me. I defiantly want to attend.

what's really cool about the last one and I'm guessing this attempt as well is that he is riding the frame he built for Jocelyn Lovell. He won many gold medals at the Commonwealth games and other events on that frame.

If I wanted a real steel race bike, I'd get one of his Piumas. Such a deal on a great frame.

What a hero.

Have to have a Marinoni at some point. Suppose sooner might be better

I saw last week on the website that the lugged Retro frame is not being made in 2017, which made me wonder if he had retired. Others do the welding, but he was still doing the brazing on the resurrected lugged frames personally.

I have been wondering about a build with one of these for a while now.

"Some have many women, I have my tomatoes"
You know, if I had this advice some years ago, I could have saved myself a lot of heartache and money!

The movie is fantastic, he's such a character!
Thanks for sharing this OP, I didn't hear about this next attempt. I'm back in T.O. for a wedding the week before, maybe I can stick around and make it to Milton for this! Cheers!

I ordered a frame and fork from Marinoni in November last year.

It was delivered to me in the first week of January. It is absolutely lovely.

I ordered the "Retro SL" with longer stays, to let me fit mudguards.

The bike is absolutely lovely. Could not be happier.

I may have to buy another .........

I looked on their website yesterday after seeing this thread, and it really is incredible how affordable these bikes are. There are a lot of them in my city - its a Marinoni town - and they look so nice.

Ironically, I stopped for milk at the grocery store on the way home last night, and a guy locked up his beaten Fango CX bike next to mine. A very nice and very chatty guy who said it is his only bike and he rides daily, then strips off the tires and puts on knobbies and mud rides when he feels like it.

To top it all off, he had beaten up new-style Veloce parts on it - it was a thing of beauty, all covered in road grit, electrical tape and a torn saddle and it was only about 4yrs old he said!

If you think it's cheap in CDN$ it's a damn steal in US$. The Piuma Supreme would be my first and only choice if I was in the market for custom steel right now.

Yes, it would be about $1000US for a custom steel frame built by a master. Crazy! it sounds like Guiseppe is rarely welding these days, but I assume that his protégés are making the grade quite nicely.

I don't think he does any of the welding, though he was brazing the retro lugged model in 2015 when I got mines. Seems like such a character that he'd be pretty demanding of anyone building under his name!

Looks like he does alright with the "Tomatoes" to me, last time he was in town. Made the the picture, behind in the blue Patagonia jacket and shorts.
