Gene had the forsight (brilliance?) to trademark the name, the make-up, basically everything that was/is KISS.

That led to some pretty heavy duty acrimony from band members when they realized that Gene owned everything and they could use nothing related to KISS beyond what Gene allowed them.

On the flip side, it has made Gene quite wealthy as he is a vehement defender of his brand and a very savvy business man. If you look up KISS merchandise over the years, the brand has been on virtually every kind of produce from lunch boxes to caskets to ?????.

Gene had a marketing firm for a while that was responsible for the "I am Indy" campaign that was used by Indycar for a couple of years.
