G'morning PL forum,

One of my favorite frames is in need of a respray, and I'm not current on who's out there providing these services, so I could use some feedback from anyone with firsthand experience. The frame is a Serotta Colorado III, I wish Joe Bell's work was within my budget, but since $500 is what I have to speed it's most likely not. So, who's out there with an established record in my price range? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Bilenky did a great job on my old csi last year...$585 and since I live close to Philadelphia I dropped off and picked up.

What are you thinking for the paint scheme? Single color, multi color, fades, panels, etc. The more masking and work required the more the job will cost. If its just a single color you may consider powdercoat.

I have to agree. Bill painted mine & it is frigging beautiful (to me, anyway). Problem is, it took way, way longer than promised. If he gets whatever took so long out of the way, I'd recommend him in a heartbeat.

If you are in a tight budget, you have a large backyard and a compressor probably you could consider doing the job yourself, a detail gun is like 15 bucks for example.

Considering the trouble, risk and expense of packing and shipping a frame I would try really hard to find a painter close enough to let me transport it back and forth myself even if the guy near me charged $100-150 more than a guy far away.

Agree. And per my recommendation above - I don't know if he still does but Toby at Hottubes used to paint Zanc's frames as well as others.

Nice paint job, and I'm not usually a fan of grey. You honored your Serotta well.

As to who might paint the OP's frame, I suggest he ask someone local such as Ted Wojcik (http://www.tedwojcikcustombicycles.com/) or Kristofer Henry at 44 Bikes (http://www.44bikes.com/) who they use. Both are reputable brands and likely use someone local.

Yes, the last I knew he was in Clearwater. I emailed him with some questions and he was quick to respond. After looking at his work and the fact he is only an hour's drive, I would definitely give him some business.

....I had a pretty amazing experience with these guys: https://www.groodybros.com/ I did do something somewhat unforgiveable - paint a Pinarello Montello in Bianchi Celeste. But it's my bike.

But the process was 1) easy, 2) economical, 3) friendly, 4) shockingly top-notch quality. I just couldn't believe the bike wasn't wet-painted. All the pantographing/cutouts were preserved, and they'd masked the chrome beautifully. I think their work was maybe $275, including paint, blasting, applying decals over the powder, and spray clear over the top, and masking. Add maybe $30 for the powder (they help you pick and order it separately from a supplier), and shipping.

I have great pictures I've taken of the work they did, can't figure out how to compress them to post them here. LMK and I can email you a few.

Others recommend him, but I cannot. YMMV if you can do it face to face.
