I was going to comment on how well it was prepared so it could be shown to its fullest advantage. But I won't.

That bike has been rode hard, hung up wet. Gotta be a joke

the thing is though, if you look at the bar tape, and the other stuff on this bike - someone clearly rode this bike a lot and loved it. the set-up is anything but traditional roadie, but this bike was helping to get someone out on the road often. so, i think its cool.

Wow. I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I'm local to that...object. I'd offer to go take a look at it but I'd want to get a tetanus booster first.

There is a (possibly apocryphal) story about Ernest Hemingway. He was sitting around a table with friends and bet them ten dollars each that he could craft an entire story in six words. After the pot was assembled, he wrote "For sale: baby shoes, never worn" on a napkin and passed it around the table. All gladly paid up.

I'll have a go regarding this bike:

"FS: titanium bike. Not stolen. Really."

I dont believe that this bike is stolen, at least I hope not. I agree its been ridden, alot, but I think that if a bicycle has taken you on a ride it deserves more love than this bike seems to have been shown. A Merlin is a very nice bike, one of my favorites, this one has been well "used" but not very well cared for. What amazes me is this "From our records, that appears to be a 57cm frame, built in April of '89. Hope this is what

you were looking for. Take care." The bike is listed as a 59cm and then he adds "Perfect! he even had the size right"

Finally he has this "his bike is in perfect condition, other than normal wear"

He is clearly not looking at the same bike that is posted here.

I am hoping he gets what he is asking because it would mean most of my bikes are "mint" :)

That bike is crazy, but if someone is really interested in a Tom Kellog Merlin,I have a nice one that I am ready to part with as I found another one that fits me better. The one I am selling is a 55square,Campy Titanium Record/Chorus 8x2. Mavic 30R 33F to Campy hubs.Very sweet ride. Had it up NYC CL for a minute this winter for $995. Let me know if anybody is interested and I can send pics etc. before I repost for the Spring season. PM me or email levyjed@aol.com

I hate it too when the bike shop recommends that I replace my cassette and chain prematurely. That thing has a good decade or so of life left in it. And the [lay down] Salle Itale saddle with the adhesive on it is actually a Fizik Aliante.

I'm curious what sound that bike makes as it's being pedaled. it's also nice that Merlin and Kellogg tie out on provenance (is there anyone from the original Merlin left to contact?).

I'm also curious to find out what the owner gets to replace it.
