Sagan has come close to winning this race before and never has yet. Definitely might be his year.

Still, going to go out on a limb and say Nibali takes it.

Anyone who isn't 100% behind Brambilla to win this year is an ice cold sob.:beer::beer:

But more seriously...

I don't think Nabali is going to win, but I think he has a better shot than the odds seem to suggest.

As a flyer, I might take Wilco Kelderman.

The last climb to the finish is a bit long for a rider like Sagan. If he doesn't expend too much energy forcing a break (again), AND if he doesn't drag Valverde to the line.....he MIGHT have the chance to win the race for the first time.
\
Edit: No, wait, is Valverde even gonna be there this year? Maybe not. Then, yeah, if he does what he did at KBK - he will win.

I'm rooting for Brambilla and Wellens. Can't wait!

this is perhaps the most open of all the classics: both Ardennes and cobble specialists can do well here. Rain is predicted on Saturday, which would be a first here. I'd with Wellens on that one alone. I also don't think it's a piti that Valverde isn't racing

Hermans, GvA, Wellens, Stybar, Brambilla, Sagan, Roglic, Kwiatkowski, and Felline; from which i need to pick 3.

Hermans, Felline, and Brambilla
Wellens and GvA

My dream podium would be Kasia Niewiadoma, Sabrina Stultiens and Roxane Knetemann. :) Kasia is the only one of the three who has a decent chance of being there....being realistic I'd guess her, Marianne Vos and Anna van der Breggen.

No idea on the men's race.

After some more consideration... basically looking at who won the ITT at the Volta ao Algarve (which provided a foretaste of the Strade Bianche winner in 2 of the last 3 years), I'm going to be looking at Kwiatkowski and Primož Roglič, who finished 3/4 in the ITT (behind Tony Martin and Castroviejo) and 1/2 in the GC.

We'll see how well this 'indicator' actually works. If not them (and not the big 3 favorites), AND it rains, I think we might see a superlative bike handler take the win... and that might be Nibali. Yeah, I downplayed Nibali's chances earlier in the thread. I'm just remembering back to that TDF stage over the cobbles...

Should be a fun race to watch.

Nibs crashed the last time there was a race on the white roads in the rain. His descending abilities is a bit overrated

That was the first GT I earnestly watched, and it just seems crazy now thinking back, with the yellow jersey essentially coming in second over all those cobbles and rain.

Kwiatkowski's race to lose, I think.

The final climb is too much for ol Petey. Its why Kwiatkowski beat is brakes off a couple years back.

Well, Anna vdB is off the startlist as of about an hour ago so.....I guess I'll say Annemiek van Vleuten. It's hard not to see someone from Boel's on the podium though but I find it even harder to pick Lizzie or Megan.

What's up with PFP? After she no-showed for 'cross season I wondered if she was healthy again. This will be her first race since Rio....she took a lot of time off to get her head and body together again.

Interesting option--thanks.

While I'm here, I'll throw out a couple of picks: Van Avermaet and Vos.

When asked by Cyclingnews if he will use disc brakes in Strade Bianche, he said: "I don't think I'll use them…"

When asked to explain why, he added: "There's a reason. I agree with using disc brakes if everyone in the peloton uses them - not only a few people."

Asked if it was for safety reasons, he said: "No, not for safety. Safety left cycling a while ago..."

Damn - Kwiatko is master of the slip-away attack. His WC, E3, and Strade Bianche wins... none of them were brute-force attacks, and even his sprint win at Amstel was the result of clever hiding and outdoing stronger riders. He may be the most subtle and well-rounded rider in the peloton.
