Skipped work yesterday since 70F was in the forecast. Oof.

Wet day for me, muddy wet day, but a good one, none the less. Aside from a (very friendly) cop who told me i was nuts for riding in the parking lot at the start of the ride, didnt see another car all day. a treat for us NYC'ers.

today is going to need to be bike cleaning day!

Where is this, Nick?

A couple days ago I did a pre-work ride I've been meaning to do for, literally, years. There's a trail north of where I live called the Northern Strand. It starts in Malden, MA and takes you out to Lynn as part (or all, it's not clear to me) of the "Bike to the Sea" trail. Anyone who lives around here knows that the area between Malden and Lynn is about the worst you can get for road riding short of downtown Boston, but I knew the path turned to gravel at some point and went through some pretty beautiful, open marsh land. As predicted, the ride to the trail and the paved section were pretty crappy, but the gravel section was great. I'll have to incorporate it into a longer ride as the area north of Lynn (Ipswich, Boxford, Middleton) has some of my favorite riding in the area and there are some other gravel paths near the end of the Northern Strand that I think can get me there.

I already posted this on the photo thread but I'll double down and post it here too, my first ride in the month March.

Took a jaunt up to the two highest points in San Francisco yesterday.
(The Twin Peaks are two prominent hills with an elevation of about 925 feet (282 m)[1] located near the geographic center of San Francisco, California. Only 928 foot (283 m) Mount Davidson is higher within the city.[3]

Partial view of the road I get to descend on from Twin Peaks.

I should have taken a photo of dirt road you have to take to get up to the cross on Mount Davison, after all the rain we've been getting it was a daunting (very slippery and wet) ride up and down from that section.

This is at the very end of the climb facing Mt Davidson cross.

This gives you a good idea of the height of the cross relative to the bike I was riding.

Scattered snow showers last night, got a bit less than an inch on top of the 2 we got the day before. Intervals on the trainer for me.... Saying 61 on Sunday - hoping for a couple good hours on the cross bike.

Full fenders and mudflaps would have been nice on that ride, Nick!

yea - you're definitely correct!

i'm going to re-fit my black mountain as a wet weather bike. this ride made that obvious!

I thought I was going to be able to get out for most of the afternoon but work crept in. I was finally able to start around 3:30 and get out for two hours, heading up into the foothills and back down on one of my favorite climbs/descents of the area, the appropriately named "Happy Canyon". The ride was great up until moderate headwinds for the last 25-30 minutes home. But still a gorgeous day!

I'm going to cheat here and use a photo from the same time last year. Sorry; didn't stop this time for pictures.

Shakedown ride for newly built Jitensha Shula roadie.
Cold and extremely windy Chicago lakefront ride Sunday.
No tape yet, probably switching to brifters.
Not liking the 10 speed dt shifters, doesn't have the same reassuring clunk
of my Shimano 600 7 spd shifters.

San Diego was horrible today. I couldn't even wear arm warmers at 8.

Bought tires for my car and got 'em shipped to my mechanic's, he called me and said bring the thing in and let me mount them. So I threw the Eddy in the back and drove down there, and rode back home. Probably two, two and a half miles.

If tasks at home permit, I'll reverse the process this afternoon. Two rides in two days! Go me!

I'm still buying bikes at a frenzied pace, even if I'm not riding them. (Two downstairs now I haven't ridden even once, another two I've had most of a year that probably have fifteen miles between them.) And, I think about riding all the time. So I get partial credit, right?

This is temporary. This is temporary. This is temporary. That's what I keep telling myself.

I'm sorry..no thru-axles, tapered fork, wet disc brakes and electronic 1by...it IS illegal to ride that rig on a dirt road. I'm surprised the cop didn't take you into custody..

I was getting in some decent rides a up until about a week ago, but the weather turned on us in upstate ny. 20's and 30's with extreme wind had me buying and installing a new generator so we would have power. Supposed to warm up this coming week though. Hopefully I can get back in the swing of things then.
