For me, this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQgYn23Xvck) has to rank among the all time best performances Jimmy Page ever did, and that's saying something.

Been listening to an Alabama bluegrass group called Ironhorse. They're probably best known for bluegrass covers of rock tunes, but their own material is really good.

Howdy fellow banjoist,

Chris was one of the instructors at the Nashville Clawhammer camp I attended 2 years ago--awesome teacher. I believe it is a Vega Whyte Laydie banjo but I'm not sure.

My most recent discovery (and subsequent immerse-myself-in-their-music orgy) was The Pineapple Thief, a British post-prog rock band who've been recording for the past ~15 years. Very reminiscent of Porcupine Tree, with shades of Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins thrown in

...but better than that description might suggest.

It's either a Whyte Laydie No 2, or a Tubaphone #3 (circa 1918-1923 - I'd have to get a better look to tell the difference). Both have the nickel-silver band around the pot. I've owned one of each a while ago - one stolen, the other sold....

I stumbled on this artist whose name is Viktoriya Yermolyeva, and has a youtube channel under the name vkgoeswild. She's an amazing pianist with a hard core bent. She has an eclectic mix of classic rock, punk, and metal covers, as well as a few original scores. I keep revisiting this internet wormhole. Maybe I'm just old, but the idea of riding a bike without clear, open ears, alert to my surroundings, is counter-intuitive to me, if not simply dangerous.

I've noticed that speakers, rather than ear buds, are gaining in popularity for cyclists.

Is that what the respondants to this thread are using?

Never even crossed my mind anyone was talking about while riding a bike.

I don't listen to music while riding, these days, because all of my riding is training or racing or riding with bros... and it's engaging, intense.. or at least fun, when bro-riding... so music is of no use. But man.. back when I commuted long miles, I absolutely had to have music. Sometimes I'd even watch TV on the bike - 35 miles of straight, wide highway... you can bet episodes of Archer helped pass the miles!

I just used wired earbuds plugged into my iPhone back then, but I'd definitely go bluetooth nowadays. Tech has gotten really good

We should avoid this discussion. It's like politics, and there are always people who do things that are not in their own best interests irrespective of obvious and inevitable consequences.

As the OP, I was on the computer when I asked what you were listening to, however I do listen while riding as well. Many of my rides are solo, so it helps with boredom. I use a bone conduction headphone, Trekz Titanium (https://aftershokz.com/products/trekz-titanium), which doesn't block external sound, unless it's playing really loud. They really do work well for most all sports activities I'm involved in and I can hear approaching snowboarders, traffic, and conversation. An added bonus is I can accept and initiate voice calls hands free.

Just got back from Hawaii back to no sun 20 degree Boston.

My guitar teacher had told me to learn a bit of "Walk don't Run" (Ventures) right before I left, that's not really surf rock but between that and the trip I'm listening to all that surf rock pretending I'm still on vacation.

Today - The Elvis Brothers.
All the Chuck Berry hoopla made me think of a guy I attended high school with, one Rob Newhouse. Rumor had it that he played in Chuck's band. I remember his band Coal Kitchen from my College Days, then went on to The Elvis Brothers, capitalizing on the Stray Cats momentum.

There's a new blondie song I heard recently, as well as a new Weezer song...the Blondie song is pretty much a classic Blondie song. The Weezer song is a departure from classic Weezer, and has followed the trend of their last few songs (and album) and is keeping up with the times as far as "alt-rock sound"

I've been on a nostalgia bent lately--we got a refurb Alexa, and I love being able to remember stuff and just ask for it to be served up.

Yesterday I was on a guitar kick, so I got "her" to play two faves from back in the day:

Herb Ellis and Joe Pass, 'Two for the road' (1974)

Chet Atkins and Les Paul,, 'Chester and Lester' (1976)--cony, but oh so smooth...

Love the rock band 10 Years. Got all their stuff except this album released in 2004. Can't seem to find it anywhere including their website. I was wondering if someone here could somehow burn me a copy? I admit I am computer/new technology stupid. I would love to get my hands on a copy without breaking the bank, and I simply don't know how to do it myself. Is it possible to download the songs from I tunes onto a disc? The version I want has 14 tracks, the last 4 being acoustic. I will gladly pay for all costs if someone can do this. The full album can be found on youtube but not sure if there is a way to burn it onto a disc. Thanks, and sorry for being dumb!! Matthew

I just stumbled upon a 90s classic: Urge Overkill's "Heaven 90210" - so good and I forgot about it. I blasted it this morning to wake up my kids!

Also, for those with kids who have seen the movie 'Sing', the finale uses Stevie Wonder's 'Don't you Worry 'Bout a Thing' and its now being sung non-stop in our house, which I like. That said, I pulled the original our of my vault ;) - (on vinyl, no less) and listened to the 1970's version that is absolutely smoking. I loved it when I was a 1990s 20yr old hipster and it was for good reason.

I'll have to give that Anthrax album a listen. I'm always on the lookout for new Metal/Hard Rock as it seems like most of the current stuff is not as good as what was coming out 20-30 years ago.

I've been listening lately to:
- Lots of old Blues. Pulled a good listening list out of a guitar book I've been working through. Check out "HoneyDripper" on one of Buddy Guy's albums.. the late J. Geils plays on it.

- Stuff I've working on in guitar lessons. AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Johnny Cash, bunch of Surf Rock stuff

I just bought copies of "Arclight" by Julian Lage and Gary Clark's Live 2016 Album. Almost felt weird to buy albums.. but I still want to show some support to artists and I wanted to hear these in top notch quality.

It is not the same as their old stuff, but I think Charlie Benante's drumming is spot on in this album (I am a drummer, so I tend to focus on that more than anything else), and the new guitarist (Jonathan Donais - former Shadows Fall axeman) seems to be a good fit.

Joey Belladonna sounds pretty darn good too :)

Several options--Livall is my new one--tiny speakers, great sound, hear ambient noise perfectly, does nor annoy others.
Babaaali is a bone conduction system, also Bluetooth, nice sound, but can't rise volume quite enough
Notice I love smart helmets[[the Livall has rear lights,, and optional turn signals, which I will never use....

Charles Mingus - Moanin'

Love me some Mingus.

I just downloaded the Stones' Exile on Main St. this morning to listen to during my commute for the next few days (no bike commuting due to weather.) I justified the purchase because: It's supposed to be one of the greatest rock albums of all time, I've been really enjoying Keith's solo stuff recently, and Sticky Fingers which came out the year before, was a fantastic album, IMO.

I'm underwhelmed so far by both the production and the songs - almost annoyed, even. Can't stand the multi-tracking of Mick's voice and the Chuck Berry throwback material wears quickly.

Tumbling Dice is the lone standout so far, but I already knew that from growing up with FM radio.

I'm only 5 songs in, so hopefully it'll get better.

Pretty good stuff. Was not a fan of country music at all growing up, but this guy can sing and play the guitar.

Been enjoying Childers too! I’d like to hit up mountain jam to see Simpson, but with a newborn at home it’s likely not in the cards this year.

He's in Burlington mid-week, then playing Saturday night June 16th at Hunter. I registered for my A race way back in November, and of course it's in Massachusetts on June 16th..........ugh!

The intro to Moanin' was my ring tone for a couple years, several years ago. Love Mingus' Blues and Roots.

By my username, you can probably tell I'm a fan of Exile on Main Street. It might be an acquired taste compared to Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers, but I always loved the sprawling, primal, rock and roll and the "let's go stay in a farmhouse for a summer with a bunch of drugs and record an album" feel of it.

I owned that album shortly after it was released (1972) but I only just recently -- like, a week ago -- learned that it was recorded in 1969, during the sessions for the Stones' Let It Bleed album...ostensibly while waiting for Keith to show up.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of this Swiss instrumental band Sonar (https://www.sonar-band.ch/) who I've described elsewhere as being the intersection set between Don Caballero and 1980s-era King Crimson, with a little Steve Reich thrown in:

And one of the best quotes I’ve read from an Americana/Outlaw Country artist:

“I think that the truth needs to be out there, and the other thing that is really important to me is having a very diverse audience. This genre of music attracts a certain kind of person sometimes who is very close-minded and I want to tell those people, 'Look, you're welcome to be a fan. But full disclosure, I'm a ****ing civil rights activist, and I'm a bisexual, and I'm an atheist, and I'm a vegan,' you know what I mean? That's a whole lot of non-redneck **** right there."

I generally like a lot of 70s and 80s punk rock, so not much of a metalhead, but this new King Gizzard album PetroDragonic Apocalypse is so good. Even better than Infest the Rats Nest, which was a solid album.

Rednecks who don't share her lifestyle can still appreciate her music. She is the best singer/songwriter that I have heard since Lucinda Williams.

On the bike I want something mellow, sometimes without lyrics or in another language. I like this with English lyrics. Ajeet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INmNYRkI9AE

Watchhouse FKA Mandolin Orange to take me back to my country roots. I like some fiddle. Playing a stringed instrument without frets seems next to impossible.

Ditto! I’m on a “folk indie” kick lately, and this is a great “Sunday Morning” band.

The Red Clay Strays, Arlo McKinley, Charles Wesley Godwin, and Charley Crockett. Al very good if you like Americana and in Crockett's case, some old style western.
