View Full Version : OT: Dinner in Providence, RI?

My family is going to be spending the day in Providence tomorrow, for a visit to the Roger Williams Zoo. Can anyone suggest options for dinner?

There'll be four of us, including two kids (nine and three), so there's no particular need for a super romantic locale. :D That being said, a casual, pleasant spot would be great. We generally eat vegetarian (though I'm flexible) and would enjoy a place that has tasty/interesting dishes.

Any recommendations from the peanut gallery? Thanks!

Flatbread Pizza on the East Side, mostly organic and local, casual, family friendly, open wood ovens, split the wood right in front of you, kids love it.

Julian's is a great spot.

Trinity Brewhouse is a good spot too.

As mentioned above, Julian's and Garden Grill, two excellent choices. I'll add the Grange to the list, as it's also casual and fully vegan. My gluten free, dairy free, red meat free wife and I frequent all three...

I really like Julian's and Trinity Brewhouse. Both have good food and good beer and are easy to get to.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions! Julian's is looking pretty appealing, so I think we're likely to go there. Should be a good day.

Julian's can be a little hectic in my experience, so just down the street (and a little more expensive) is the excellent vegetarian restaurant The Grange (also on Broadway). (I'm a vegetarian.)

Julian's does have an excellent collection of Trappist ales, if you want to get your Eddy on.

If it was me, I would get me a couple of paper plates, a boatload of napkins, and a large Sicilian pie from Caserta's and just sit out on the plaza trying to entice a pretty young lady to have a slice with me!

Haven't lived in PVD for a couple years but all of the above suggestions are solid. I'd probably opt for Apsara because as mentioned Julian's can be a little bustling but you really can't go wrong with anything suggested. I've also heard really good things from friends about North Bakery- http://www.northbakery.com/new-page/

Not to be confused with North, which is also good but neither especially kid-friendly nor especially inexpensive.

If you are looking for breakfast go check out J P Spoonem's. A short walk from the Zoo.

I don't frequent PVD a lot, but the only one mentioned I can comment on is the Garden Grill...good food there.

Sounds good. Don't forget the Gansetts!

So, we ended up going to Julian's, and arrived just after they opened for dinner--no wait and no crowds. It's a great space and the food was highly successful for all four of us!

Thanks again for all the helpful suggestions. And in case anyone is curious, no, Julian's is not listed on Open Table, so had I relied on that recommendation, I would never have found it. The Paceline's denizens win again!
