Anyone have experience on whether does it really help or just another placebo effect as compared to the regular pulley that come with the rear derailleur.

Are you asking if oversized pulleys have an affect, or are you asking if it can be perceived by the rider?

Lots of things have an affect. Not all of them can be perceived by the rider. Take, for example, aero wheels. A typical aero wheel will increase speed at a give power by a small fraction of a mile per hour (typically, a speed increase of about 1-2%). Given how much our speeds fluctuate when we ride, can the average rider tell that they are going a few tenths of a mile per hour faster at any given point in a ride? Probably not. But if you are riding against the clock, all gains add up, and the net speed gain with aerowheels can be measured on a stop watch.

So it is too with oversized pulleys. They have been measured to have a very real reduction in friction, but it is small. It can be measured with a stopwatch, but it will not be perceptible to the rider.

I see some SRAM versions that say they save a gigantic 1.6 watts, and all for only $425. A bargain! :hello:

And as large of brand decal as possible!

Kogel had an interesting write up on this.

I have got to think that if they had a benefit, the next version Durace, Record, Red, etc.. would be larger than the others

Either way, they may be.

If big is good, then bigger must be even better. (Just ask Mae West)

Well, not a problem since pullies are suppositories. :butt:

Better for what?

In terms of drag while riding, drivetrain losses are relatively small.

Well, they did go from 10t to 11t for both companies. Also helps with chain length and using bigger cogsets..auto-longer cage, type thing. DA 7703 triple did this.

BUT to answer the question, like 'ceramic', marketing.

Might be worth it if you are competing at the very point of the spear and every fraction of a second or watt is the difference in winning or 2nd place. for the rest of us = hype. they do look kinda cool tho : )
