Switched to a marine grease on my parts and boooooyy do they leave a film over my hand. What do people here use to clean their hands off? I just ran out of Phils, which seemed to last forever.

There is a orange tub at Walmart. It's cheap and works.

Dawn liquid dish soap works really well for most things. If not, I use Goop, with pumice.

I work as an entertainment rigger and at the end of the day my hands are often covered in 'chain grease'. I've recently begun using 'Boraxo', which is a granulated soap. It's like magic.

I use phils. I know there are some out there that are cheaper but I have always used phils and I really like it.

My shop uses Solopol. It is fantastic, no smell and solvent free so it doesn't kill you in the winter months by drying your skin. It is industrial supply and only comes in big containers but it is available on Amazon.

+1 for Dawn dish soap. The blue, original formula.
Cheap and dual purpose on the dishes.

I use lava. It's just easy to keep around. I've used gojo and goop. They're all about the same but slightly different.

NB: All those sanitizing hand cleaners that you don't need water for have ethanol in them. Drop a chain on a ride and get greasy fingers? Find some hand sanitizer --- most places have them when you walk in a door. The ethanol will cut the grease. You can then wash your hands with soap and water to get the rest off.

Tarkelp hand cleaner, which I get for $2 a container at Harbor Freight (!) is really good. Has some sort of pumice in it, doesn't smell to bad nor does it seem too hard on the skin.

For anyone who cares, the grit in some hand cleaners and skin products is made from plastic beads that are a big problem when they find their way through sewage treatment and into waterways. I've stopped using them, there are grit free options that work fine, including just dish soap. My wedding ring no longer gets scratched up either.

If you ever have real filthy greasy hands and having a hard time getting it off, just use hand Cream. You know, the stuff you use to soften your hands. Like dissolves like. The hand cream is greasy and softens the dirty grease. Then you can use any soap to get it all off.

Lava and Gojo both use volcanic pumice. Professionally, I love Prosoap.

dish soap and a nail brush is generally enough for me. if I were a wrench in a shop and my hands were black all day, I'd prolly use something more hardcore.

i used to use Zep or dish soap. I use dish soap most of the time unless I have a really stubborn stain then I use the orange stuff.

Try putting dish soap on your hands and rubbing it in before using grease. I do this before I repack automobile wheel bearings by hand. Really aids in the cleanup.

Gojo Natural Orange Pumice Hand Cleaner

^^^This

I've recently begun using 'Boraxo', which is a granulated soap. It's like magic.

Huh... We used to have Boraxo around the house as the go-to industrial strength hand cleaner when I was a little kid. It's been a good ~40 years since I've used it, but based on my recollection* I would not have expected it to be effective for removing bicycle grease stains. Good to know.

*of course, a 40-year-old recollection is likely more confabulation than memory, so...
