It seems the "adventure" bike has taken on a new genre of bike. Although they are a hard tail which seem to have feel out of style in the early 2000s, I am interested to building one.

The Soma B side has been in my cross hairs. I like this frame for the duality of a single speed and geared drop out. However the dropout is not suitable for a through axle. http://www.somafab.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/wolverine_org_v2_dropouts_800.jpg

Investigating further, I found that the Jamis Dragon Slayer has a similar set up except with a adjustable dropout that is compatible with a through axle. http://14761-presscdn-0-15.pagely.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/IMG_3350-Sea-otter-2015-jamis-dragonslayer-enduro-mountainbike-magazine-780x520.jpg

Has anyone had any experinece with these? I am curious if there are companies that already make this component? If so, I hope companies recognize new opportunities for bike variations.

I owned a Dragon Slayer for a while and ran it singlespeed 80% of the time. Worked well. As for dropout manufacturers, Paragon Machine Works has their own rocker dropout with thru axle options. There are others out there as well if you're looking to build in that direction.

Paragon offers a wide variety of inserts, but they are only compatible with their dropouts.

I seem to remember someone putting Paragon drops on a Soma. Although any perceivable benefit to through axle is likely lost with the split seatstay and sliding dropouts! Fantastic bikes either way though.

the Paragons apparently fit on a soma and possibly others because Paragon has a note on their site that the inserts aren't designed to fit on bikes made by makers that ripped off their design, so don't ask for help. They probably fit on other makes too.

From the paragon site:
Important Information
1) For useful information on adjustable dropouts, including torque values for our bolts, click here.
2) Insert compatibility is only guaranteed when used with a compatible Paragon Machine Works product.
3) We are not able to advise or make recommendations on compatibility with products that are not manufactured by us.

Note that Paragon supplies drawings, so you could attempt to measure the frame and see if you thought the Pargon sliders would fit your frame. I suggest using the upgraded hardware kit that they sell
