I was told about a part that can attach above my V brake that increases cable travel, without having to buy either different brakes or different brake levers. I think it's round and the cable travels its circumference. Does it really exist, and what is it called? Any opinions on its effectiveness?

With my current setup of Force 22 levers and TRP CX9 V brakes, I have minimal cable travel. If the wheel goes very slightly out of true, I have to loosen the cable by way of the fixing bolt to provide enough clearance to compensate and keep the pads from the hitting wheel, resulting in brake power loss. Wheel truing is not the only cause, it's just a PITA...

It also looks like TRP 8s work with my levers, so I suppose changing brakes is an option. This may be converted into a WTT classifieds thread.

I have this on my tandem, matching ultegra 9 spd shifter with front v brake, works great.

Perhaps this from TRP will work.

No, that's just a barrel adjuster to adjust cable tension. Doesn't change pull ratio.

What OP wants is the Travel Agent posted above. My teammate swears by them.

Yes, Travel Agent! That should do the trick.

I use CX8 TRP V brakes with my 10s Sram levers. Very sensitive to wheel wobbles and I also have to fiddle with the spring tension regularly to keep them centered. Even a small misalignment can lead to problems.

The 8's may in fact help your situation. With a shorter arm length, the pads will move farther for the same amount of cable pull compared to the longer arm CX9. This would allow you to set the pads further from the wheel while maintaining a similar initial contact point (relative to the amount of level movement). The downside is that you would lose some modulation. The idea behind the TRP CX brakes was to offer a V brake solution with out needing a travel agent. IIRC, the CX9 was designed for "shimano" cable pull ratios on their 10s stuff and the 8.4's for sram. I'm not sure if this applies to the 11s stuff, but it would make sense that with a longer arm you would need to set the pad closer to the rim with a Sram lever.

Use the CX8.4s or Paul Mini Motos instead. The CX9s do better with older Shimano STIs or V-brake levers.

Yup, that's what my mechanic told me as he heckled whoever built the bike. Well, he mentioned the 8.4s, not the Pauls.
