I just came across an announcement for this by an historian local to me, Bob McCullough.

Looks like good winter reading for somebody! I'll probably check it out.

I'll bet that's fascinating. I had read that early bicyclists got roadbuilding started in this country, before automobiles, but presumably this has a lot more detail.

There is supposed to have been a guy who crossed the continent on a penny-farthing before there were roads all the way through, going across a lot of open country, crossing canyons on railroad bridges... does the term "epic" come to mind? And he wrote an account of his experiences.

Do I remember the title? The guy's name? Faugh!
