have we discussed this group stuff at all?

46/32 crankset available. could be good for a lower gearing option for the right bike..

I got to play with this at last years' Taipei show and then at Interbike. That s**t is f***ing rad! Will look fcuking awesome on your Schindelhauer.

The problem I have with it is that I cannot find a legit reason to spec it on a bike other than "It looks cool."

Nexus is great for the $500-$800 bikes.
Alfine works so well with 8 and 11 speed internal and you can go disc.
Alfine electric is the flippin jam!
If I want to go lighter weight I'll spec 105.
Hell, even Claris works really well and you can spec that for a song and a bag of chips.

Shimano has identified a "new" category of bikes they call Urban Sport and this is the component group. It includes single or double crank, derailleurs, integrated brake levers and shifters in two styles, flat mount hydro brakes and a wheel set that all share cosmetics. It is not necessarily a commuter, but you can commute on it, and it is not a road bike but it is fun to ride and made for the folks moving into urban areas to live, work and ride. I believe the people at Shimano see the bike infrastructure improvements being done in cities around the world and the younger demographic changing from suburban to urban living as a long term market for cycling.
We built a couple of prototypes for Shimano with these parts for Eurobike and Interbike and will be rolling it out as a model later in the spring. I think it is pretty cool and will be a really fun bike to have for certain folks getting a work out and just getting around. With a variety of companies moving offices into urban areas and creating good bike parking, etc with great bike paths and lanes being developed it has a solid basis. More bikes, good.

I had to google this. I'm still not sure that I get it. Also, what is going on here?

I think it shows Shimano's new "H" h-bars.

Maybe it's just the angle or lighting, or just me, but doesn't the reach look a bit long?

Butch, that might have been one of the hottest builds at IB (and, unfortunately, a big sleeper).

46/32 with an 11-32 cassette makes so much sense on a lot of builds. I'm not hating a pants guard, but wonder what the Q-factor is on this.

without the guard...for normal usage?

For the intended usage of this bike, the guard is for normal usage (you now, not by us, but by normal people).

its fine. shifting works well enough - comparable with slx/xt.

i've got a set of the flat bar/ispec shifters BNIB for sale

wide q factor is wide but you can get 46/30 if you look around hard enough. this should be enough to do everything i want to in town.

and i guess the front derailleur must go lower than normal to reach the small ring. I see you have it on a clamp, but would it mount low enough in a braze on installation?

11-32

im using the metrea pusher and dangler and they work. there's definitely enough room for a wider range but you need the set up to be pro because it's easy to get the pusher to rub against the chainguard. though, that could be power legs - this frame is columbus spirit for lugs and its got some buttery vibes.

built this bike for Di2 but had a metrea group just sitting around in my parts bin

I think you do, but I think you have another name for it.
