Went commuting on Monday in -15C weather. I think that may have been a factor in me catching the wife's bug the next day. Been getting worse since.
I can deal with mucus, achiness and chills. What I can't deal with is a sore throat that feels like you're swallowing a dozen knives with each gulp.

What's your (effective) remedy?

Doctor said it's viral and a low level fever.

A bit of this and you'll be soothed by the honey, herbs and spices, or by the whiskey.

Nectar of the gods.

a lot of zicam + some tylenol + sleep

in fact, since i've started zicam at the first sign of scratchy throat, i haven't had painful sore throats. YMMV, as apparently zicam doesn't work well for everyone

I used to use pure honey drops, but can't find them anymore so I use robitussin or halls honey cough drops.

You have an infection. Don't let it progress too far without seeking medical help. It can get worse. Bronchitis? Just a cold....sure...wait it out a few days. I don't mess around with things that can spread to my ears, lungs, nostrils, etc. Riding in the cold....exercise induced asthma can be a concern. Be careful.

My mom's remedy has worked for me for 66 years: gargle with salt in warm water.

I've had a primary care Doctor recommend that. Suck it up your nose also to clear that.

That's the strain going good aroumd. I'm in Denver Colorado and had the exact same symptoms. LOTS of sleep (when not coughing up a lung.) cough drops, and more sleep. Sorry man. It's a beastly one this year.

MZillioux already offered this, but it's worth repeating.

Oh, and you need to include the *zest* of the lemon, as the immune-boosting bioflavinoids are contained therein, not in the juice. The ginger is there as an anti-flammatory, not for flavor. Honey is there to cut the acidic bite of the lemon, etc.

Good luck.

Another vote for hot water & salt. Hot as you can stand it, gargle it.

Mucinex, salt water gargle, and salt water nasal rinse.
