Came across this on the iBob list and found it rather interesting. These guys were some tough individuals.

That story needs to be spread around more. Thanks for posting.

There's a documentary on their trip that is shown on PBS occasionally, "The Bicycle Corps, America's Black Army on Wheels". It's available on YouTube and is well worth watching.

Agreed. To me it is well worth watching and I'll say it again, these guys were tough individuals. I honestly believe they deserved alot more respect and attention than they received.

Thanks for sharing! The US military has a long history of experimenting various "techniques" on black soldiers.

I'll have to watch that doc, this sounds like an amazing story. I can't imagine riding a 100+ lbs of bike and gear on a single speed half way across the country. Sweet frame bags though, right? Coming soon to the radavist.

As an aside, what an obnoxious article! I guess I should feel lucky that it wasn't a slide show.

I've heard about this vaguely but I didn't realize the Buffalo Soldiers were involved.

At any rate now I'm thinking this would make a good unsupported bikepacking race, a la tour divide.
