To this point I've happily avoided any discussion on this topic, but now have acquired a bike with rear 12/142 TA. Supposedly it has interchangeable 135 QR dropouts. So now I have gone back and read some of the various threads.
My question is about chainline (which I may have missed in my search). Will the 12/142 result in the same as 135/QR? Does it depend on the hub?

From Pinkbike-

"Cassette and disc rotor are in the exact same relation to the hub's centerline as a standard 135 mm QR hub
Wheel dish remains the same as a 135 mm quick release wheel
Frame dropout's have 3.5 mm of inset per side that hub endcaps fit into - just as with a 10 x 135 mm QR wheel"
I think if using the same hub and converting..CL and all the same.

Thanks. So sounds like I could get 12/142 hub or a 135 hub with endcaps that some manufacturers have, like DT Swiss.

Yessir..just about everybody, hub and wheel-wise, have the kits for 142/12 to QR. Fronts are a little more compliciated with 12mm or 15mm TA, plus QR..and then the rear silliness, like Boost.
mavic wheels these days come with a big bag of end caps.

Frames with 142 and 135 are the same spacing. Just different end caps.Boost frames at 148 have a 3 mm front chainring offset.
