View Full Version : Nitto noodles on my CSI?

I am looking for a bar with a little more drop and reach than a short/shallow and I wondered if a Nitto Noodle would look out of place on that bike. I normally associate that bar with a more upright/touring build.

What says you?

It would look great (as long as the seatpost matches!)

I think they are close to if not the best looking handlebars out there, whether you're talking touring or non-touring "traditional" road bike. (as opposed to the racer-boy compact frame bikes)

If it puts your hands where you want them to be, then by all means, go for it. For a steel frame like the CSi the Noodles are perfect.

Stephen,

I run the Noodles on a vintage bike and think they'd visually match well with any skinny-tubed non-molded bike. That said, the bend in the tops and the transition from the tops to the curve is pretty unique. If at all possible, try a pair out before committing to them. They feel very different from modern bars. There are other modern deep-drop rounded-drop bars that aren't as iconoclastic.

I run Noodles on my 1987 Raleigh. They work well for me, and I think they look very nice on a vintage race bike. :)

I've had Noodles on my CSI and other 90's/00's steel frames for years.
They look just fine and are the most comfortable bar I've had.
The ramp behind the brake hoods is so gradual to be almost flat.

Rivendell explains.

OK; I'll clarify my comments to add that I'm using Noodles on a vintage build with old-school non-aero brake levers (in combination with downtube shifters). In that context, the transition from flat-to-curve took some getting used to, for me.

Those Campy brake/shift levers on the Raleigh look like a great combination.

Here's mine:

Thanks everyone. I will give them a try. I see Riv list the smaller size as 41 and all the other retailers list a 42. Does anyone know if these are the same bar?

Merckx bend TTT Compenzione handlebars? I have a pair(43cm c-c). PM if interested.

Thanks sir! I really like the look of that classic bar. However, with my current stem it may be too much reach. With a noodle I am already increasing it by 2.0 cm (versus the Soma 75mm.

If in the end I need even more I will keep this offer in my hip pocket :)

Funny, I will be using a Pearl stem and while I have a very nice Ritchey classic post (which I think is a great post of a classic steel) I will have to get a NITTO S83 to match!

Here they are on a Fuso with a Nitto post and stem too. L'Eroica 2015 was a bit wet, this is in Radda about half way through.

I'm going to say that aesthetically it works very well. The bend is classic. The tops, brilliant.

I’m sold

These bars are so fine it's a shame to cover them with tape.

BTW I still have the Nitto Dynamic seat post if you're interested. But it does have scratches below where it was inserted in this photo. $40 shipped.

I guess I am just different but I did not care for the sweep or bend back on the tops it felt like I was being pushed back. I did really like the position in the drops though. I replaced mine with some Ritchey Classic bars.

Yep...have them on most of my bikes. I like the 176 model without the flare as well.

I like the 176 also. Man your bike is off the charts. Good job.

I want to thank you guys for the input on this. I put one on yesterday and rode it on the trainer today. It is perfect. I love the bends and the longer flat drops. A very nice departure from the compacts I have been running the last few years.

I guess I am a slow learner. I did not size them up as Riv says to either.

Hey, that's my bike! Same model, color, bars and stem. Some people are always going to say that you need to use Italian parts on a European frame, but I don't care, Nitto just looks right. It's a great company. Particularly if you're a tall guy, and need/want a wider handlebar.
