View Full Version : Drop bar existence?

Hello!

I am looking for a drop bar that would satisfy all the criteria below:

-Silver
-26.0 or 25.4 clamp
-Traditional round bend
-Short reach (less than or equal to 80mm)

Basically something like the Ritchey Classic Road Bar, but not 31.8 clamp.

Does this exist? Maybe some Nitto bar I'm not aware of?

Thank you in advance for your help!

soma highway one.

Thanks, but this one still has a compact bend. I'm looking for something with flats at the bottom of the drops.

Cinelli Mod 64, aka "Giro d'Italia" is what you seek:

138 reach, 78 drop. Available in 26.0, only came in silver and has the benefit of having cool Cinelli graphics engraved on them.

Oh, and probably about any race you can name was won on them back in the day so they've stood the test of time.

I don't understand how you can have the classic bend with such a short reach. They would seem mutually exclusive. Yet, those are the specs they claim it has.

I would suggest the Nitto B115, but reach is 10cm.

To be fair, they may measure reach at a strange point. But I have these bars on my commuter and there's definitely less of a "ramp" between the tops and the hoods than on longer-reach traditional bend bars.

THIS ....or you can also search eBay for "Deda 215 shallow"...the older, lighter and heat treated version of the "speciale"

The problem as I see it is that the Ritchey's you're comparing to don't really have a traditional bend. They are flat on the tops and have drops that are almost parallel and extend backwards farther than the clamp area.

No traditional (i.e. 26.0 bar) that I'm aware of was shaped this way. They all sloped down a lot faster in the tops, unless you angle them up.

The closest I've seen is the Nitto Noodle, but the reach is like 95mm on those. Nitto Mark's bar is pretty close to what you want, but I think it's been discontinued. You might still find one.

Oh yeah.....totally forgot about these guys. Waaaay lighter than older Cinelli bars.

I have a pair of 46cm 215's collecting dust in my garage. Happy to ship them your way for cheap if you're interested.

Yes! The Mark's bar fits the OP's criteria. Forgot about that one. Nitto M151 is a nice bar, but not at all a classic bend.

The deda bars have a familiar "64" drop but they are way friendlier to mount modern ergo levers on.

I'm sure those are fine bars but that's not the bend OP was after.

Do this work well with modern shifters or is the deda a better fit for that?

Is this one heat treated? I am also looking and had and issue with Soma bars.

I have an Nitto M172SSB that is similar in shape, but with a 31.8mm clamp. It is heat treated. Pics I've seen of the M151 don't have the red band which all heat treated bars get so far as I can tell.

That said, Nitto don't play. You don't have to worry about the quality of their bars. Heat treatment is done to strengthen their thinner tubed bars. If it isn't heat treated it didn't need to be.

In my experience, Deda by a long shot.

Deda:

Due to the ramp shape of the 64 bars, it is hard to get a Campagnolo ergo lever to securely mount any higher than pictured. Different levers may have different results.

Has worked for me on a variety of builds from Campy 8-11 speed. Both the Cinelli Giro and the Deda 215.

Does anyone recall the Nitto product no. for the "Mark's Bar" (i.e. Rivendell's invented name)?

Has anyone tried the Deda Piega? Looks like a nice compromise between a compact bend and a round bend with a 26.0 clamp.

Here's my Deda 215 Shallow Round with 6800 levers. Nice bend, really light, and plenty stiff.

I haven't, but I've heard this bar was also offered in an ergo bend and it seems not all vendors show the correct picture. This could just be rumor, but I would check with the vendor prior to ordering.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the responses - they have shed light for me on some pretty nice handlebars.

I actually have the nitto m106's right now. I'd love to try that Mark's Bar (42cm) in case anyone is out there and has a set they are willing to part with. It is for my all-Japanese Ebisu all-purpose so I'd love to keep it Japanese if I could...
