My soma highway one went all goofy and it has pretty poor quality. Are there any options?

I think Nitto makes several bends with a 26.0mm diameter.

Soma's hwy. one had the shortest reach last I looked.
Not sure why you think the one you have is of poor quality. Mine has been pretty darn solid.

My hwy1 bars have been good as well but the deda specale 26 is my new favorite bar. They have a nice ramp/hood transition and traditional drops. Cheap too.

As seen on my wife's bike:

I have had at least 2 or 3 bikes with hwy ones, quality is great so unless they have changed their production....

I know Nitto does have a bar now that is similar to the hwy 1 but last time I tried to find it I couldn't so I can't really be much help (sorry I am useless today)

Really tough to beat the Deda Speciale.

Yummy.

I have the Deda 215 Shallow which has a similar shape and shallow drop. Very satisfied.

Really tough to beat the Deda Speciale.

Except they don't make it in a 40.

If you are looking for an inexpensive short and shallow Nitto, have a look at these Nitto M151F, $48.00, clamp: 26.0mm • drop: 128mm • reach: 76mm.

I have a set of Nitto M106's on one of my bikes, same shape and bends however quite a bit more expensive, $95.00.

https://www.retro-gression.com/products/nitto-m151f-handlebar

Here is what Grant@Rivendale when asked had to say about them:

"We like them because they have a flattish ramp and a the only good looking ana-bend ever. I THINK the consensus here is that a Noodle still wins (my vote, but that's to be expected, I'm sure)...but we don't automatically dislike handlebars we didn't design! It's a nice bar. The reach is super short for a drop bar (the Noddle has a normal reach--numbers are probably like 80/92---sorry to jargonize here--it just means there's less fwd bend. That's either slightly good or slightly bad---it's not a winnable contest either way--. The bar is not heat treated, and so it's not as strong, and I'll f ind out about the alloy. I don't generally like to engage in scuttlebutt, but I believe all the heat-treated NITTO alum bars are made of 2014 alloy aluminum, heat-treatd to T6; and the non-HT noodles are 5056 aluminum, and my s-butt factor here is rising, but I think these are a mere 6061-non HT. I'll find out and report back.
We also like them because they're so cheap.
Don't ride them off road and probably don't use them if you're an economizing burly brute, but for regular old Cinelli-style road use, sure"

Sorry about the large image not my picture.

Except they don't make it in a 40.

They absolutely do. Deda bars are measured o-o so their "42" is really a 40 c-c. If you are wanting a "deda 40" or what is more commonly called a 38mm, then you are correct.

I have the Nitro M106 on the Bianchi. Also measured edge to edge so a 42 is a 40. Great bars.

Thanks guys this is great that there are some options. I think that this is my 3rd highway one and I have had good luck in the past but it looks like some of the newer ones have some issues.

I posted in another thread about my bar listing to the side so I twisted forced it up and it stuck that way. After looking at the bar (presumably closer than when I installed it last year) I noticed it has some some lengthwise peaked bulge on the left top and smaller bottom right. I did a little search and found this recent review on Jenson so I am assuming that this is not isolated. I actually just sent an email to SOMA to let them know about this.

Quote from Jenson Customer:

Poor quality control from Soma
Bars came with not one but TWO factory defects, a triangular bulge running along two inches of one side of the flats and the right side drop (reach) is about 5mm longer than the other. Jenson replaced the bars with no issue, but I won't buy another Soma handlebar again.

Origin8 Pro Fit Compact has 70 reach 120 drop - I have them on at least two bikes.

Out of curiosity what is a good choice for an intermediate drop/reach bar that plays well with modern shifters.

Thanks to this input I just ordered a set of this. I really wanted a little more drop and reach than the Soma and this have 0.5 centimeters in both measurements.

I like the shape of those speciales, but they have the cheapest looking finish I've ever seen on a pair of bars.

They are not polished, but the satin silver is smooth and consistent on my wife's bars. Hard to argue given they are sub $30. I've seen bars that cost twice that that were not finished any different.

Has anyone tried polishing them?

The ones I had just got scuffed and marked up really easily. I would happily pay Deda a little more for a better finished bar.

I had planned to, but the satin finish looked nice with the silver panels on the bike. I thought I had scratched mine up installing the stem but the marks ended up cleaning off. I can't quite explain what happened, but I'm not going to complain.

My Hwy 1 is pretty solid, nothing to complain about.
BTW got them from Jenson USA.

From the website it looks like polished is optional and you do see pictures for them. I am not sure of true availability.

I needed something now but I am planning on a NITTO before long.

At one time, they offered a polished finish but I was unsuccessful in finding a pair. Even vendors that pictured the polished bars confirmed that their stock was all matte silver.

I tried a Highway 1 but couldn't get comfortable on it. I ended up with a quill adapter and an Easton EA 50 bar. The quill adapter is all the way down, so it looks pretty good. I'm happy.

Well I learned a couple of things. If you are not careful you will end up ordering a 31.8 rather than a 26 :crap:

The other thing I learned is that the 31.8 deda is polished.

Eh, that sucks. Good to know there is another 31.8 polished bar option however. Is it the traditional Italian bend?

It appears to be the same bend as the 26.

What about a 31.8 quill stem?

Well, I wished I knew that was an option when I built my yeti.

If they are 42 c-c I would be tempted to trade my 31.8 hwy1 bars for them.

80cm only. Perfect for short people and people with sweet fixies in the hottest colorway.

Personally, I'm not sure I would trust a no-name stem from a company with this in the description:
"pls make sure ur handlebar"

I have my stem situated. It’s fine I need to build up my Schwag anyway.

I haven't read through previous pages, but I've ridden and been very happy with Deda 215 Shallows. A nice curve, and available in 26.
