3 state 3 mountain ride

Thinking of riding this. Anyone have good/bad experiences with this ride? Traffic tend to be light outside of Chattanooga? Good shoulders to ride or are the roads narrow? May weather tend to be mild/rainy/hot/windy, or all four on the same day?

I signed up for my third 3S3M Challenge. Great ride, and very challenging (for me anyway). I'm a good climber, but have endured the walk of shame getting up Burkhalter Gap at mile 90. I am determined to pace myself better this year. Weather the last two years has been perfect, though can be dicey that time of year. Highly recommended!

What was your gearing? I was going to go with a 34/50 and 12/30 cassette.

Compact with an 11/28. Moved to an 11/32 on my new wheels.
