Hmm depending on the processor maybe you can put a media server on that?

ps: just saw the specs... donate that thing.

A great option, convert into a Chromebook if compatible with Neverware software.

Donate to a local school.
Erase your files before you do.
(There is a procedure for new Macs to do a 'factory reset' before selling/disposing, google to see what to do for older Macs)

I like the name and the blog photos:

It is too bad that for most out of date electronics there is no longer much if any value. Isn't that Moore's law?

Can always reuse a good, old bike.

If you're worried about the data on the HD, take it to the Apple Store and they'll scrub the drive for you at no cost. Then donate to your heart's content.

Check Best Buy for a trade in - I recently got 98$ for an iMac from 06. Apple really does it right with planned obsolescence- couldn't upgrade software to hook up my iPhone because it didn't have enough memory- memory was already maxed- I got an Alienware with a 6gb video card 1tb and 512 ssd -

I'm in the same situation. I have an old Macbook sitting around. I'm wondering if I can upgrade the OS enough that I can use if for streaming at my desk while I work on my main computer.

I have 3 old macbooks lying around. All can't be upgraded and either have no batteries or batteries that won't hold a charge. Currently using a white macbook as a media server on my TV. Gonna swap it out with a metal macbook (newest of the 3) and then recycle it and a blackbook (black macbook) that I have, all after removing the Hard Drives of course. Throw em in an enclosure and keep for posterity.

I use my old 17" HP as a very large, heavy paperweight. Have no idea where the battery charger is for it. It'll eventually go into a crate with 5 other laptops dating back to 1996. Wife won't let me get rid of them because of files. Have everything we need, so they continue to sit.

Donate to a local school.

I tried to do that with some computers from my office a few years back. The school chuckled at me and politely said "our computers are newer/faster/better than those".

I have an old laptop that is now simply an MP3 player. It's also a reasonable hard drive controller, i.e. I can plug in a couple external drives (if you have USB ports) and copy data etc without tying up a "good" computer.

Yep, old laptop serves mobile Strava uploading and music playing duties so the others can stay where they are.

Ok. Good luck.

Found a needy friend of the fit guy that works at Vecchio's. Reset to factory settings yesterday(geeez, from the command-s option..made me think of a PC, not Mac) but it worked well. Surprising how much many rely on the interweb to find resources, help, jobs for those not as lucky as most of us.

Thanks

for sure.

not having access to the web puts anyone needing social services or public assistance at a huge disadvantage. i can not imagine applying for any type of job these days, short of very basic manual labor without access to the web and email.

web access has become a necessity in modern society.
