looking to get another 650b wheelset built. The bike uses mafac raid brakes and I want to get something in silver (maybe polished) with a nice tall brake track. It will be getting a 42mm tire and a 32 hole hubset.

Not very worried about rim weight but lighter is always nice, however, I am a big fella.

I would like to get something with a welded seem but that seems to be getting harder to find.

So far I have been considering-

Velocity dyad (I have had good luck with these in 700)
Velocity Atlas (I like the way the profile looks, a bit heavy)
Velocity A23 ( a little narrow maybe)
VO Diagonale (seems okay, I have had good luck with RAID rims)
SOMA weymouth (just "discovered" these)
Gran Bois 650b (super classic looking)
Pacenti SL23 V.2 650b (I have a pair of these but, narrow brake track and black)

Any of you fellas got opinions on the matter?

I think I am leaning towards the SOMA weymouth, they are the cheapest and the triple box construction should be pretty tough. I think they are Araya's and they are not tubeless so the tires should be easy to mount. And they have eyelets.

Curious about what the hive mind has to say.

The Soma Weymouth rims have a very deep well. I had a really hard time getting tires to mount properly on them. The beads just would not seat properly. I gave up and got a set of Pacenti. Never looked back.

I would look for the new Pacenti Brevet rims, they're are an update of the PL23. I'm running the original PL23's 32H and they have worked well.

I have some PL23 V.1 650b rims, tired of wrestling the tires off.

My LBS just built up a bike with polished Velocity Cliffhangers, SONdelux and WI T11 wrapped in Babyshoe Pass. Super sharp wheelset. Not sure how well the Raids would play with the width of the Cliffhangers, but the tires would certainly like them. But, with width come weight especially when rim brakes are called for.
