We drove up to my mother's in Port Angeles WA for the holiday with a stop in Portland on the way. I tossed the bike on the car and I was lucky enough to get a lot of riding in. There was snow on all 3 rides! Talk about a white Christmas!
A day in the hills in Portland. I used to live here but only ever commuted by bike. I used to laugh at roadies. then i grew up.

I have driven some of these roads in the past, but not often, so it was a brand new sort of adventure. I started at Hoyt Arboretum, a place i sometimes did work in my past life. My wife wanted to run in her favorite trails in forest park, so i was stuck in the hills.
They still have farms, right in the city!

Next onto Port Angeles. Its stunning up here. when we arrived my mother told me about a ride the locals like to do called hurricane gulch. she said there may be some snow up high.
She was right, about 5 miles up i hit some traffic.

some kids in their suv did yell "nice outfit you pussy". it was kinda of a nice outfit, i had on my cafe du cycliste winter tights and my brand new long sleeve brevet jersey from Rapha. i was looking pretty fly for a white (christmas) guy.
After 2 days in the hills (and eating too much in general) i wanted an easy day. So i hit the beach. but it hailed, then rained, then snowed!
