I just picked up a new Salsa Vaya Ti and am in the process of building it up.

Uses a 135 QR rear and 15 x 100 front. I'm looking to build a reasonably priced set of wheels.

I'm thinking of using DT Swiss 350 centerlock disc hubs, either the Velocity Aileron or A23 rims and DT Competition spokes, brass nipples.

Thoughts or suggestions? Alternatives?

Perfect wheelset! The Ailerons are nice rims. DT350
are a perennial favourite.

I've been happy with my Easton R90SL rims - careful with the ERD measurement though, the spec isnt accurate.

Gets my bang for the buck approval- I have a set of dt350's w a23's and comp spokes actually and am more than satisfied I did 28/28 build and I'm 175 race weight- super solid! Plenty beefy

I'd do the Velocity Blunt SS instead. Wider and lighter!

Are CL DT350s coming with an 11 speed free hub now? Just something to double check if you wanted an 11 speed drivetrain. A few months ago all I could find stock was 10 speed and I had to special order the rear hub.

BHS has a Bitex rear hub that will work and is 11 speed.

I prefer the WI hubs over DT, just my $.02

Sounds like a solid build.

I have a set of HED Belgium+ on White Industries CLD's 28/28. It's a Bomber wheelset!

I like the idea of HED Belgium Plus, too...

I'd go the same way.

In fact, everything is on order including Ailerons.

Check out Boyd's wheels. http://www.boydcycling.com/
I have two sets and they are awesome.
One set with WI hubs and 44mm rims.
One set of Alimount rims with his in house hubs.
Both center lock disc. Both are excellent.

Nice wheels, unless I missed it they only offer CLD front hubs with 24 spoke count?

Sounds great. DT440 another great choice.

And for above, WI vs DT hubs..WI great choice but a WI rear hub more $ than a DT hubset.

11s MTB cogset, not road but easy to swap the FH body.

I use White Industries hubs and Pacenti SL25 disc rims. Very nice setup built by Ergott Wheels.

I believe so. DT has some road disc wheels out now that use an 11-speed freehub, I have a pair of the R24 wheels. I really like how DT hubs can be converted to all the different standards.

Hope also has a new road disc hub option - http://www.hopetech.com/product/rs4-centre-lock-rear-hub/ - I'm using them, they're quite nice, although a bit heavy.

I like the White Industries because of the Titanium Freehub body.

Its good times for cycling with so many options we get to choose from!

I have a WI CLD hubset laced to Ailerons with Sapim Force spokes. Might be the nicest wheelset I've owned. I just upgraded to the higher engagement ring drive.

They're truly phenomenal. Couldn't fault a DT350 set, either.

I was looking at the Hope hubs for a potential build. How heavy are they?

Am I the only one that rides tubulars on my gravel wheels?

Mmmmm more cush and best of all... No pinch flats!

Very pleased with Stans Grail on DT 350's

I had at first passed on the Stan's as I mistakenly read max recommended PSI for tubeless is 45. But then after seeing these posts I gave them a second look and see that max recommended PSI depends on tire size. I'll probably use the Panaracer Gravel Kings SK, but I want the option to throw some 28c or 32c Gatorskins on if I want to do some touring.

Do the Stan's lace up as nicely as the Velocity's? I finished a wheelset using the Ailerons and was very pleased in how easily they laced up.

I'd love to go with the W.I. Hubs but trying to keep costs down.

As said, it's a great time to be riding with so many options available to us.

Having a hard time deciding. A good problem to have indeed.

I didnt weigh them before they were built, but I think a little heavier than DT350's.

I'm really digging my DT 350s laced to WTB KOMs by Jude at Sugar Wheelworks. Mine are 650b's, though the KOMs are available in a large variety of widths and diameters. FWIW tubeless setup with Schwalbe G-ones was pretty easy even with a floor pump.

I'm thinking about getting another set but in 700c/29". I'll definitely stick with the DT 350s but may try the H Plus Son Hydras though, just for the heck of it.

The Stan's Grail to the DT's was a very solid easy build, what you would expect from quality rims and hubs. Running Gravelkings at 45 lbs for a 190 lb rider with no troubles. This is my first set of DT's as I'm a WI fan also but as yourself wanted to keep the cost down being my first gravel build

I just built a wheelset for my most-everything-bike with DT 350 CL 11s road, SP PX-8 15x100, Sapim Race spokes, Secure Lock nipples and Stan's Crest Mk3 650b rims. Had I not wanted a dynamo I'd have went with the DT 350 front.

Congrats on the Vaya Ti; nice frame and really cool fork.

11s MTB cogset, not road but easy to swap the FH body.

The one I bought on 11/2/16 is 11s from the factory. Centerlock, 12x142 (just end caps; can switch to QR), 32h, J-bend. Part number H350NCDMR32SA6162S. I think there were some hubs also available that had the 10s freehub, but the price was the same so there's no good reason not to order the hub with 11s freehub. Not a huge deal, but the most recent builds I've done with hubs with changeable end caps came supplied with the various end caps (Velocity Lightweight, SRAM 900, even the SP PX-8 came with a QR axle sleeve), so it's unfortunate if you do want to change to 10x135 you need to buy end caps for $30.

I'm headed out for 3ish hours on the cross bike here in a bit. Riding last year's race tires (PDX/MXP combo) that are now training tires.

...or I could swap out some brake pads and ride LASes

...or Challenge Eroica/Paris-Roubaix if I thought the roads woiuld be smooth enough

My favorite is probably the Challenge setup, but that's more a 'late spring/summer' setup after they've gone thru and re-graded the roads and it's smoother than wintertime.
