CAMPAGNOLO CHORUS REAR HUB? I have a new set Chorus Hubs 126m spacing Cassette style
I just got a record Cassette 8 cog cassette set for it
Using spacers supplied with the set it accepts only 7 cogs which is sort of ok
The question is can I get narrow spacers to be able to use all 8 cogs A preferred option
I don't want to go to 130 mm spacing and replace cassette body if not needed
Thanks

9's spacers with 9's shifters. Then use 8 cogs? Block off last shift.

You need a 130 spaced hub to run 8s.

What Ralph said might work, but 8 speed cogs are .04" thicker than 9 speed. So a better setup would be to use 9 speed cogs and spacers. To do that you would need to file the splines down, as the grooves in the 7/8 freehub are not as deep as 9 speed.

Here's a chart from Sheldon Brown on cassette spacer spacing:

http://sheldonbrown.com/cribsheet-spacing.html

Brand model Campy 8 speed Campy 9 speed Shimano 9

Center-to-center 5.0mm 4.55mm 4.34mm
Spacing

Sprocket Thickness 1.9mm 1.75mm 1.78mm

Spacer Thickness 3.1mm 2.8mm 2.56mm

Total Width 36.9mm 38.2mm 36.5mm

So try Shimano or Campy 9 speed spacers with your cogs it should work. Good Luck!

Charles, I think what you likely have is a Centaur 7s cassette hub. I really don't think you can run anything but 7s on it. @oldpotatoe would know for sure

It probably a very early 7s, 126mm cassette rear hub for a 7s Campag cogset, also very rare. The OP can put 7 of 8 cogs on it but replacing 8s spacers with 9s ones, to get all 8 cogs on there, means the 8s spacing will be off and it won't shift well(unless friction shifter). Can't swap FH bodies either since the axle is shorter. You CAN swap axle and FH body to a 8s one(and 130mm) or even a 9/10/11s one from 1997 Record/Chorus, if you can find one.

Yes appears a 7 cog cassette body
Ok I got 7 cogs and 6 spacers to fit from a Campagnolo record 8 cassette set
Which gives me for the total with hub will accept of
Spacing of cogs per Sheldon Brown is 5.0mm x 6 = 30mm+ 1 cog width 1.9mm for a total of 31.9 mm the hub will accept
For it would take 8 cogs it would be 8 cogs x 1.9 mm = 15.2 mm
Take 31.9 maximum width - 15.2 = 16.7 mm ./. 7 spacers needed =2.38mm
Only Shimano makes a spacer of 2.35mm for ten speed
Not sure if they would fit
If it would fit I would have to use a 10 speed chain
Using Campy 9 spacers of 2.8 mm would give 7/64'' too much width
Appears I will be building a set of 7 cogs Campagnolo wheels
I might get longer axle to go to 130mm spacing

Honestly, I'd leave it 126 mm. 130 8 speed hubs are fairly easy to find. Most 126 Campagnolo hubs are for freewheels. With good freewheels getting harder to come by, a 7 speed cassette hub looks more and more attractive. You are going to be somewhat limited in gearing. Universal Cycles still sells the 13-26 8 speed cassette. I would get one of those and delete the 14 cog, which leaves you with 13-15-17-19-21-23-26. You could drop the 16 from a (cheaper) 13-23 and end up with 13-14-15-17-19-21-23.

Index/click shifting? The shifter moves the rear der 8s shifting, regardless of how many cogs ya got on there. If the cogs aren't 5mm ctr to ctr, it won't shift, even with a 10s chain.

And for right above, Campag 8s cogsets easy to find..12-23 and 13-26 are the only 2.

The 8 speed cassettes have disappeared from most of the usual sellers in the U.K. I did find them (3 choices) for $48 here, but have never ordered from them.

Planet Cyclery has the 13-23 for $45 shipped.
