View Full Version : Road brakes with High Clearance?

I decided to try tubeless tires (25s) on my 2013 Meivici with Campy Record brakes of the same vintage. The back tire clears fine, but the front tire rubs against the top of the brake at anything above 50 psi. Side-to-side clearance is fine.

Any suggestions for brakes with high clearance (high arches so to speak)? I can't tell if Campy has changed the design of its brakes to accommodate the new wider rims.

Thank you.

I've had success with Shimano 6800 brakes clearing large tires. I suspect 5800 and 9000 brakes may work too.

The TRP970's offer more clearance than the Campy skeletons they replaced on my Sachs. I'm running 28mm GP4000S II on the back, and 25mm in the front. The brake is not the limiting factor in the front.

New Chorus Skeleton. They clear 30s on my CAAD10. Super Record and Record continue to be the 2009-2014 design. More than likely because they're still made in Europe.

Subtle changes, tons more clearance. 2009-2014 on the left. 2015 on the bike

Thanks, guys. I've owned it for 5 years which the longest I've had a bike since I was a kid. I don't anthropomorphize things but this CAAD10 is a friend. When my mom was spending the last few months of her life at the Cedars Sinai ICU, I'd ride over daily. Never worried about locking it up with the $150 mountain bikes.

Beat, when you're ready to move out that Chorus group, you have my phone number.
Literally, you do. We texted a couple of days ago.
Don't screw this up.
