It started raining yesterday here in Austin and the forecast says it will continue at least for the next two or three days...time to break out the basket full of old tubes that need fixin', some TLC for the bikes that get ridden often, rearrange or reorganise certain things around garage, do a bit of cleanup and de-cluttering...my trucker is still sitting on the stand waiting for the Compass Switchback Hills 650bx48 tires I had ordered during Thanksgiving to come in, i replaced the former flat bar to drop bar configuration with bar end shifters, changed out the Brooks to WTB Pure V saddle, and it's all tuned up and ready to go minus tires...while waiting, I took stock of my " hub inventory "... Oh my, i already built a bunch but there's still a lot of wheels waiting for me to build :D
In the meantime, I am admiring the love letter that old pal sent me recently, it contains the trade secrets of that Italian outfit with blueprint of their next gen wheel set which of course, I will dutifully forward to my parent company in Japan for " research & study " .
Col Collective videos playing in a loop in the background while working...
It's pissin' rain outside... what do you do? :D

This is my favorite time of the day... still very early, everyone in the house still in bed, I am working away here by myself in the garage... ah, just went inside the house to get a bowl of oatmeal cereal... with chocolate ice cream toppings!

Heaven!!!

Carry on....

It is cold and wet here in Dallas. Should do same as you, Wei-pal, but doing Christmas prep - shopping, getting decorations from storage, etc. Will need to get out rain gear for a sanity recovery ride by mid afternoon.

tire pal, I am with you on that. Just moved a whole bunch of christmas decoration stuff- trees, ornaments etc out from the shelves, waiting for the kids to do their usual Sat. "Clean House!" routine before bringing them inside.

My rain bike has fenders 'permanently' mounted, so I just break out the rain stuff.

Part of the Sat. routine, first thing my kids esp. the younger ones ask when they wake up..."Dad, can we have spicy noodle?" I have this frequently throughout the week but for them, it's a Saturday thing, something special. Trust me, this beats the $15 bowl of Ramen noodle that you pay outside, give it a try! Fair warning: it's SPICY!!

Fenders make a lot of sense to me even though we don't get as much rain here compared to other places. So, I have got two bikes now with fenders on all year round.

What to do when it's raining outside? Go to brunch!

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/14/8a/78/148a789d2a948a65190eab628ec95973.jpg

Poke fun at New Yorkers for doin' this because it does play into an image and stereotype held by some. But don't knock it till you've tried it. Frankly, the experience of brunch at a place like Balthazar is more akin to a Parisian brasserie than knockin' down flapjacks at Denny's. But I'm not knockin' Denny's 'cos I like Denny's too as it is it's own thing. I guess I just like to eat, I ain't picky.

I used to eat to ride, now I ride to eat.

Brunch is very common all over the US nowadays. We just don't have to pay incredibly high prices like you do

? Go to brunch!

gosh i love brunch. an opportunity to feel justified and proper drinking ice cold screwdrivers at 10AM, and indulgently wonderful food. there are a number of great "hidden gems" around NYC and surrounding areas that are open for brunch and put on quite a spread.

i NEVER drive into NYC, except on Sunday mornings. it's a rare treat to drive into the city, no traffic. park wherever you want and hit up brunch. it's freaking fantastic, and like another world. the usual hustle and bustle of the city is calm and the food and boozy OJ is flowing. i like to call it the secret brunch society.

fuzz - good idea; i'm doing brunch tomorrow!

OK, so far we got weisan-pal, franswa-pal, Angry-pal and me, who else is goin' to Paceline brunch? Yeah, it's true that we can go to any diner, but if we're gonna go through the effort of getting us all together, we mighta as well go to Balthazar. It's a nice place and then what was a planned as a brunch becomes a party!

Just to close the loop on this...

NYC can be among the most cost-effective places to live in. There is intense competition in every aspect of NYC life and that can drive prices down. Choose between any range of living & lifestyle to suit your preference or pocketbook: 54.3 million tourists come to NYC and few come in by private jet. In fact, in walking the dog on summer mornings, I've seen young adults sleeping in their car, out-of-state plates, parked on the street. NYC's got it all.

But it is painfully true, and I would not suggest otherwise, that the cost of a residence, either by the cost of real estate to own or the cost of rent to live in, is high. Although also, in fairness, as comparative to other great cities of the world it is in the ballpark of living in a great city.

We can go to breakfast in Tom's Diner on the Upper West Side. The same Tom's Diner immortalized as Monk's Diner in Seinfeld.
