Turns out I'll have a week by myself around Christmas. Thinking of doing a self-supported bike tour from Lone Pine to Furance Creek and getting a ride back. Anyone familiar with Death Valley in the winter? First winter tour, any advice from the touring experts on the forum would be greatly appreciated.

need any company? with more than one vehicle we could do our own shuttle, have one vehicle at one end, drop the other at the other end.:bike:

Tentative plan
Day 1 Lone Pine to Emigrant campsite (elevation 2000)
Day 2 Ride up to Wildrose, with option to ride down to Panamint Valley Road or do an out an back
Day 3 Ride to Furnace Creek - camp
Day 4 Out and Back Ride to Dante's Point, etc - camp/hotel
Day 5 - Drive back to Lone Pine

We camped for an awesome week between Xmas and NY a few years ago. Brilliant skies, relatively uncrowded, and cold. Lows in the high teens and low twenties, highs in the mid forties. This was during a record cold spell.

Didn't take bikes, but will next time. We did a lot of 4WD exploring and hiking. Took literally thousands of pictures-got to love digital....

No bikes, just camping, a few times at Christmas-NY. It's beautiful.

BUT: Please be well-jacketed, -gloved, -booted, and -hatted. It can get extremely cold out there during this period.
