I've noticed that a Record group with carbon crank can now be had for about $1200. I am planning on a new bike for the end of the year. I can't justify the supposed MSRP of the '07 group at something like 2K. Does anyone think that the prices will drop any lower later this year due to the new '07 group introduction? Or should I just go for it now... :crap:
Perhaps they should start listing gruppos on the Commodities Exchanges :p

Next year's MSRP doesn't mean a thing. The 2007 group will have the much improved Ultra Torque crank and new brakes, while the 2006 will have the square taper spindle BB and crank that will soon be sold dirt cheap to get rid of them.

You might want to check out 11speed.com or probikekit.com for low prices. 2006 parts with a 2007 crank might be the best value.

what was "wrong" with the old-style crank?

+1

I can't wait to pick up a Record compact crank on an '06 closeout. For my level of riding, I doubt the difference in crank performance will be readily apparent.

Hmmm, it's crap. Just kidding but to be honest it's just a little too flexy for my tastes. I switched from a record crank to a 10 speed dura ace and would never go back.

I love the new skeleton brake calipers.

Waiting on actual availability of the 2007 stuff is a crap shoot...

If you want gear now or soon, I wouldn't expect anyone in cycling (especially Italians) to get a product line to market any time close to when they say they will...

I love Campy, but the new stuff doesn't look impressive to me - I hate the brakes - and I could care less that they've changed from square taper BB.

Campy's always worked fine for me. Buy it up...

Our Shop received 3 full 2007 record groups. The new group looks better in person than the photos lead on to. The new crankset is one interesting concept and I hope it works as well as it looks . I am most curious on how the new bearings in the BB will hold up.
