Please, no jokes! Looking to find a thin soft neck dickie.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I hear ya! I have used a large handkerchief. Kinda like the way cowboys would wear one in front. (hope that makes sense). When it gets really cold I wear it just over my nose to warm the air I breathe a little.

In x-c skiing apparel, they call these gaiters, or neck gaiters. I have an old one of thin wool, but I don't remember where it came from. Maybe an old ibex item. Try a ski shop?

I use an Ibex "Indie Quick Link," which has been comfortable, light, & well-made.

I bought a neck gaiter a few years ago from my LBS. Useful piece. Can't recall the brand at the moment.

I like this thing: http://www.rapha.cc/us/en_US/shop/winter-collar/product/WCL04XX

but I generally only pull it up over my mouth into "bandit mode" when it's super windy or descending.

and like anything Rapha, wait until you have a coupon or there's a sale or something. the merino wool does a great job of keeping wind out/warmth in, and not getting sweaty in the process.

Cut- off the sleeves and put them over your head, it'll pull up over the chin if you need it and go down when you don't.

I also use them to cover the ears under a hat.

Patent pending.

The smart wool neck gaiter is my favorite for skiing because it is light weight. The fleece gaiters I have are too hot for downhill.

On the bike, I have a fleece neck gaiter that Velcros in the back, that way I can take it on and off with out too much trouble. Most of the time I cover my neck on the bike its during my commute when it starts or ends in the dark. As the sun comes up and it gets warmer, the Velcro makes it easier to take off.

Thanks for the suggestions! I wanted a true dickie because I wanted the part that lays on your chest and the throat part as 1 piece. The problem for me with neck warmers is there always seems to be the gap between the collar of your jersey/jacket and the warmer.

Also, easy enough to just remove if too hot.

Ive got a thin merino rapha one that is nice, but my fav when cold is the original turtle fur.

cheap, warm, colors. you can wear it as a hat, under hat, on face, or just around neck. I've even worn it to football games and used it as a hand warmer.

Bought several of them on closeout years ago on a ski trip: (and $14.99 is hard to beat ;)

I have the same thing - think I got it on sale for half off...

works great on and off bike but hard to swallow at MSRP

I am a huge fan of the Rapha wool option but recently started using the much nicer and more versatile Defeet Dickie which gets my total endorsement. Made in NC by some really nice people.

I've never used the Defeet Dickie myself but I am a confirmed fanboy for their affordable, simple but perfectly designed, made in USA products.

And to think that in junior high, I made fun of kids who wore dickies. Matter of fact, I still do.:D
