View Full Version : Drop bar in MTB diameter?
I have a mid 90's Litespeed MTB that I would like to turn into a drop bar bomber. It has grip shifters  and I'd like to use them on the conversion.
Does anyone make a drop bar in MTB width?
Thanks!

Width? Or diameter?
I think its going to be tough to get gripshifters on a drop bar. Maybe look into barcons?

Even if there were 22.2mm dropbars, how would you get past the bend with the gripshifters?
How about these?

Lots of 25.4 drop bars out there. I have some I could part with.
The shifters that GripShift made for drop bars were the CX-DT series. There were 4 versions made for 7 speed: DA (CX-DT 118), 105/600/Sante/MTB etc. (CX-DT 125), and SunTour (CX-DT 215 (1990) and CX-DT 225 (1991 on)). There was also a 6 speed Shimano set (CX-DT 120) and an 8 speed Shimano set, which I think was CX-DT 600.
I think you could mount MTB GripShift on the drops, but they are considerably more bulky than the CX-DTs.
Actually, my plan is to mount them on the end of the drops. I have other bikes with bar ends and wanted to try this. Also, I want to try the drops before I re cable the whole thing.

Lots of cheap steel drops had 22.2 diameters, I believe. Think Schwinn Varsity.

Soma Gator bars are designed to work with mtb diameter shifters.
