Throughout his whole big league coaching career, cycling has been one of Maddon’s passions away from the game. Biking along the bay near his Tampa Bay home has been part of Maddon’s weekly routine, as well is his main source of exercise. Back two years ago, Maddon said he rode his bike anywhere from 60-100 miles per week. At 58-years-old, Maddon is committed to taking care of his body and staying in shape. Besides getting his needed exercise from his bike rides, Maddon also benefits mentally from cycling. He says it helps manage the stress of being a big league manager, and even helps him think of creative ideas. The “9=8” slogan, which Maddon made famous after clinching the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, was actually thought of during one of his bike rides.

I'm a Mets fan, but more so, a baseball fan. So, looking at the exciting prospects of this perfect-for-2016 World Series, here's my mixed take.

I want Chicago to win because it's a great story.
I want the Cubs to lose because the owner is a Trump supporter.

I want Cleveland to win because it was the first AL team to sign black players.
I want the Indians to lose because of its racist logo.

Cubs will take it because.... Ben Zobrist.
He was with the Royals when we broke our drought. A year later, he's with the Cubs as they try to do the same thing. He is this generations' Lonnie Smith. A middling player who seems to end up on winners.
That said, rooting for Cleveland because "Cub" is a stupid middle name for a kid. (another BZ reference)

Interesting parallel between Ben Zobrist and Lonnie Smith.

Both have the exact same lifetime OPS (on-base & slugging percentages) of .791, which describes a very good and useful player.

Dave, who says of course the Zobrist OPS will likely change but still for now...

Only thing working in the Cubs' favor is that they probably benefit in the pitching rotation match ups.

But they really do need to start hitting...

Game 5

Cle: T. Bauer (12-8, 4.26 ERA)
ChC: J. Lester (19-5, 2.44 ERA)

Game 6 (if necessary)

So which will feel worse? To go up 3 games to 1, need just one more win to get the first series since '48 and lose three in a row? Or be down 3-1, battle back to even, need one more to finally win since '08, and lose game 7?
Because one of these are going to happen. Somebody is even more snake bit than the other guys.

It was a sweet hit, though. That guy is fun.

"Fast and Furious: Oakland Drift" question:
If the Raiders move to Vegas, do the A's still stay in The Dump?

unknown....the whole thing is eff'd.

why? because Giants hold 'territorial" rights ot the south bay and peninsula. that means the best the A's can do is build near water at jack london square but no public transit (BART) goes there.

the morass is because the coliseum is governed by it's own Board, the county and the city - and these three cannot synchronize and get things moving.

silver/black sure are entertaining (600+ and 23 penalties) but I am not happy the two games I have gone to are their two losses. I think I will stay home this coming Sunday night.

I don't really care about either team one way or the other, but I'm pulling slightly for the Cubs just because I hate the Cleveland mascot (seriously, why is that still considered acceptable and how do people justify dressing up in redface??)

Also, I believe John Smoltz is the best baseball commentator in the business. He doesn't feel compelled to fill every moment of air time with inane chatter, he really knows the game, and he has made some very insiteful comments.

Thank you. You ARE a genius! Those ads are so annoying!

Ferrero Rocher.... ahh, I'd like to see the demographics of extra innings world series viewers. Seems like an odd choice. Thankfully, they spared us a chevy ad.

I can finally wash my Cubs shirt. So happy for all my buds in Chicago! Vienna beef dogs for dinner washed down with an Old Style did the trick!

Great series. I'm glad Chicago won this...as much as I liked Cleveland, they knocked out the Blue Jay's so I couldn't help but to root for the Cubs!!
Best world series of recent years.

I'm waiting for Joe Buck to announce that, "That is the first time that a substitute-catcher pinch-runner has been out on a good slide in the 9th inning of a World Series Game 7 since I got new hair plugs and starting wearing my "fun" socks...".

Well played

Can't stand that jakas$. If only he got a fraction of the class his dad had

Oh and good job to Cubs

Why is it called the World Series? Are there teams from South America, Europe and Australasia in the competition?

They usually lose in the very early rounds, when teams are selected by saying "I'll take Jimmy!"

Well, MLB is the premier baseball league in the world. There are players from the Americas and Asia, that I know of. Not sure of any Europeans.

My last minute decision yesterday morning to hop on a plane and go to game 7 of the World Series was well worth the effort.

I arrived three hours before game time and soaked up the atmosphere for one hour outside Progressive Field and two hours inside. The game was exciting, but stressful watching the Indians keep fighting back to stay in the game -although they never led.

I was high fived by more Cubs' fans last night than by other people in the rest of my long life - I was wearing a Cubs t shirt. This happened before, during and after the game.

I hated seeing Lester come in with 2 outs in the 5th inning and a runner on first as Hendricks was still pitching well. Why bring in a pitcher who cannot hold a runner on first when there is a runner on first. Two runs scored.

Lester then settled down, but he was taken out with two outs and a runner on first. This time three runs scored. Chapman did not have it whether it was from too many pitches in games 5 and 6 or the pressure of the moment got the best of him.

Last night was an experience I will never forget and is a great example of the value of experiences over buying stuff. I need to be spontaneous and have more special life experiences.

My memorable cycling experience is two weeks at the Tour de France, including riding every day. I would like to attend the Six Days of Ghent, but with Wiggins and Cavendish riding this year tickets are going to be tough to come by.

Did you buy a ticket, or get one from a Cleveland fan who was leaving?

Crazy game to watch on TV. Can only imagine the tension at the ballpark.

Would love to do some stuff like that, kudos for having the guts to do it!

On the radio broadcast they did mention several times that there were a lot more Cubs fans for Game #7 than there had been for #6.

Congratulations for just winging it and having such a good time. :)
