Uneven chain wear question

I was measuring an Ultegra 11 sp chain with a Park chain wear indicator tool and was very surprised to find an "outlier" for lack of a better term. The chain measured less an .75 wear everywhere except one section where the .75 side of the tool dropped in easily. I've never seen such inconsistency. Is uneven wear plausible? Is it a manufacturing defect?

Nope.

I think this is normal. The last time I changed my chain and used a chain checker it was perfectly fine in some areas but pretty far gone in others. I guess the moral of the story is to check the chain in many places looking for bad spots.

Some chains are constructed with better manufacturing tolerances than others.....
