"Huska is protected by a pool noodle.

Strapped to his bike’s frame with bungee cords, the floppy foam cylinder is a reminder to drivers not to get too close. "

Interesting idea although I don't think I'll be attaching a pool noodle to myself anywhere outside a pool anytime soon

Hmm. Tempting on my commuter with my kid on the back in Los Angeles.

Sad that someone thinks this is necessary to protect cyclists.

Its not the distance that scares me most instances but the absolute asinine judgment that some drivers display regarding the safety of the points in the road they deem appropriate to pass a cyclist. i.e. on blind curves or rises in the road with near zero forward visibilty.

Whatever works! Looks like california recently passed a three foot rule.

Good idea for visualizing appropriate space, assuming the driver has their eyes on the road. Hey, I'd ride in a speedo and swimmies if it means three feet in that kind of traffic.

We used to have mandated little reflectors like that on kids' bikes when I grew up in Sweden.

Personally, I'd use a PVC pole with a carbide-steel tip. Remind them if they get too close...
