... that after three weeks of racing, it really matters if You are a good time trialist or not? Just LOOK at how Periero pedaled today! IMHO he has the goods for the Yellow. His recovery seems superior to the others.

I have always thought this also. It is a last man standing kind of thing. Thanks for confirming it.

Even Pantani rode a couple of good time trials to win 3 week races.

So I guess you gotta want it.

Tomorrow's gonna be good. Sastre did indeed drop them all, but he looked like he was going faster than he really was and his gap at the end was not as big as I thought it would be.

I hope Pereiro wins not that FL is out of the picture.

Periero only dropped a minute and some change to Klodi and Evans in the first tt. If he holds his place, he's got as good as a chance as any. However, because of his Liz Taylor like glasses, I'm pulling for Klodi.

I'm having mixed feelings. I like Pereiro a lot. I'd like to see him win it on his own merits and he's certainly showing his merits now. It would serve the other teams right for not chasing back some of his lead and just *****ing about Phonak letting him go.

But he did get a half hour gift just to be here and you'd kind of have to put a mental asterisk next to his name if he actually won this thing. I guess you sort of have to do that anyway, given all of the top riders pulled, but this would be different. My gut's pulling in both directions on this one and I can't seem to decide. Maybe he should finish on the podium but not first?

as you know, tt-ing is mental and having the jersey on does wonders for the psyche... and not having the jersey on in an early tt does take some motivation out of you.. but .. i'd be surprised. i'd like it to happen.

regardless... this is a fun race.

Remember that when Oscar lost the Yellow to Floyd, we was not too far back. Today he rode smart and it paid off, he didn't go all out a lá Rasmussen. So I think he will have the legs to keep things under control tomorrow, "rest" on Friday and then, keeps things in place for the TT.

As for Sastre... He looked like he was pushing it hard today! He looked worse than Floyd, imho. Floyd was hurting, but he didn't grimace as much! By looking at the Tour so far, I doubt if someone is going to have the guts or energy to attack the jersey (in order to move up in GC) tomorrow.

This is what Floyd said: "Looks to me like Klöden has a very good chance; Sastre was also strong today, but it will hard for him to get time tomorrow, because it's not as difficult a stage as it was today. Pereiro was also good today... it will come down to the time trial, I think.

Either way, I think so far we, the fans, are the ones that have won a great show after the long boring years of the past. I hope this will be a precedent to future Tours and Giros and Vueltas. However, I see that more doping busts will happen not too far from now.

I don't get it. Shouldn't he be comended for taking a chance. If anything Landis and his team should have an asterisk next to their names that says...had the overall, but blew it.

Well, hey, it's all academic now! I hear what you're saying, but if we forget what happened TODAY for a minute, giving Oscar a half hour had very little to do with Floyd losing the tour and a whole lot to do with Oscar being in a position to win it. Floyd put himself seemingly out of contention and would likely have done the same thing even if they'd chased down Oscar that day. But he'd have been losing his place to a bunch of guys not containing Pereiro.

But now suddenly it may be relevant again - what a friggin' TOUR!

I think this misses the point/spirit of the comments made by fstrthnu.

For a guy who isn't a tt specialist, and really just gave it his best shot,
Pereiro gave the smackdown in a TT to about a 137 guys today, including
Lang, Zabriskie, Eki, and Evans, and they're pretty good TT guys.
I think that's what fstrthnu meant.

ask fignon whether TTing matters.

twice a fool.
remember that fignon lost the 84 giro on the last day in a tt to moser....same as the tour to lemond. he had over 2 minutes in hand and moser rolled out his aero bike and maybe had a little help from the italian helicopters...who knows... but he smoked fignon and won the event by a lot.
fignon lived through a last day disaster twice during his storied career.
he must have forgotten the giro when he started the tt during the 89 tour.
it should be noted that nobody, nobody remotely believed that lemond could take that kind of time out of fignon in what was a very, very short tt. was almost not believeable....still is one of the most remakable rides in the history of the tour...maybe now mirrored by floyd landis' reply to his disastrous alpine stage in 2006.

That was awesome.

I met Damiano at interbike when cannondale brought him over after
winning the Giro. Seeing him off the bike, that guy is tiny!
I don't know why his legs look so huge on tv, when you're standing there
with him, he looks like you could snap him in half.
