Hey guys,

So I had my first crash today after about a year and some months of riding. Overall, no apparent damage to the frame and/other components except for the rear wheel. Its a Roval CLX60. I took it to Bike Barn for truing and they "fixed" it.

However when I got back home, I noticed that some slight wobble. Its not major, but has me a bit worried. I removed the type and tube and eye-balled the wheel for any major wobbleness, but seem pretty trued.

I put the tire/tube back multiple times, but its still there. Could be the tire itself?

Thoughts?

Is it out of round? Is the "wobble" actually a hop?

Low spoke count wheels..it may be 'bent' altho that's tough with carbon. Could be the tire, not seated or 'bulged' somewhere. You paid for it to be trued and 'fixed', take it back to the shop and ask/show them.

Carbon isn't ductile, so it can't be bent permanently. Either it's straight or it's cracked. I'm assuming it came out of the mold straight. It's possible the spokes had some twist in them from truing, and unwound when you rode the bike, but that's a reach.

You've got the spokes, which end some good distance from the tire bed. To me that means there could be some deviation that's not correctable through truing.

Take the tire off and reinstall the wheel. If it looks okay, then reinstall the tire and check again. That will tell you whether it's the rim or the tire.

Like old potato said, maybe tire not sitted properly or tube is under tire. You said that without the tire the wheel seems true right?

Sorry for the late reply!
Here is a video I took this morning.

With tire

Without tire (just rim)

Rim only seems OK with some wobble. Maybe its the tire that is no good?

No, wheel needs to be trued better. If it cannot be for some reason, either good as possible or replace rim.

Thanks for the information. Ill stop by again later today!

I'd agree with oldpotatoe.

Unless the rim has failed, I'd expect they could get the wheel straighter than that but of course I'm Monday morning quarterbacking it and don't have my hands on the wheel. Since carbon doesn't soft deform like aluminum rims, I'd expect it to be either straight or shattered.

Otherwise, I don't think the wheel is that bad.
